Alexander Campbell (politician, 1814)

Alexander Campbell (born October 4, 1814 in Franklin County , Pennsylvania , † August 8, 1898 in LaSalle , Illinois ) was an American politician .

Campbell moved to LaSalle, Illinois in 1850. In 1852 and 1853 he was mayor of this city. He was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives in 1858 and 1859 .

Campbell was elected as an independent to the 44th Congress , where he represented the state of Illinois from March 4, 1875 to March 3, 1877 in the US House of Representatives . In the elections in 1876 he was unable to defend his seat. After his political career he withdrew from public life. He died in LaSalle in 1898 and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery .
