Charles M. Borchers

Charles Martin Borchers (born November 18, 1869 in Lockville , Ohio , † December 2, 1946 in Decatur , Illinois ) was an American politician.

Life

Borchers moved with his parents to Illinois in 1875, where they settled in Macon County . Borchers later taught there for seven years. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1897, and then practiced in Decatur, Macon County. From 1909 to 1911 he was mayor of the city.

Borchers was elected as a Democrat in the 63rd Congress and represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1913 to March 3, 1915 . He was unable to defend his seat in the 1914 elections. Borchers began to practice again in his previous profession. From 1919 to 1923 he was again mayor of Decatur. In 1924 he ran as a Democratic candidate in the gubernatorial elections, but was defeated by the Republican Len Small . Borchers died in Decatur in 1946 and was buried in Frantz Cemetery in Macon County.
