Lane Evans

Lane Allen Evans (born August 4, 1951 in Rock Island , Illinois - † November 5, 2014 in East Moline , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1983 and 2007 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lane Evans attended Sacred Heart School and then Alleman High School on Rock Island until 1969 . He served in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971 during the Vietnam War . He was stationed in Okinawa . After serving in the military, he continued his education at Augustana College on Rock Island until 1974 . After studying law at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and being admitted to the bar in 1977, he began working in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1982 congressional election , Evans was elected to the 17th  constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded George M. O'Brien on January 3, 1983 . After eleven re-elections, he was able to complete twelve legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2007 . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . Evans was considered a very liberal congressman. In the meantime, it hit the headlines because of unclear campaign funding. In 2005, his campaign committee fined $ 185,000; an admission of guilt was not connected with it.

In 2006 he refused to run again, which was also due to the Parkinson's disease diagnosed with him .
