Chester A. Chesney

Chester Anton "Chet" Chesney (born March 9, 1916 in Chicago , Illinois , †  September 20, 1986 in Marco Island , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1951 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chester Chesney attended St. Hyacinth and Lane Technical High School and then studied until 1938 at DePaul University in Chicago. In 1939 and 1940 he was a professional football player with the Chicago Bears , with whom he won the NFL championship in 1940 . During the Second World War , he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1941 . He was used both in the Pacific region and in Europe. When he left military service, he had made it to the rank of major. In 1946 and 1947, Chesney worked for the Hines Veterans Office . At the same time, he took a course in business studies at Northwestern University . In the years 1948 and 1949 he worked for the company Montgomery Ward & Co operates. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1948 congressional elections , Chesney was elected to the 11th constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican Chauncey W. Reed on January 3, 1949 . Since he was not confirmed in 1950, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1951 . This was shaped by the events of the Cold War .

In August 1968, Chesney took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. He was also a vice president and a director of the Avondale Savings & Loan Association . Chester Chesney died on September 20, 1986 in Marco Island, where he had spent his old age.
