William H. Ray

William Henry Ray (born December 14, 1812 in Amenia , New York , †  January 25, 1881 in Rushville , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1813, William Ray moved with his parents to Utica , where he later attended public schools. In 1834 he came to Rushville, Illinois, where he worked in commerce. He also worked in the banking industry. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party founded in 1854 . Between 1867 and 1869 he was a member of the Illinois Board of Equalization .

In the congressional elections of 1872 Ray was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Democrat Edward Y. Rice on March 4, 1873 . Until March 3, 1875 he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, William Ray resumed his previous activities. He died on January 25, 1881 in Rushville, where he was also buried.
