Peter C. Granata
Peter Charles Granata (born October 28, 1898 in Chicago , Illinois , † September 29, 1973 there ) was an American politician . In 1931 and 1932 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Peter Granata attended the public schools in Chicago and then until 1912 the local Bryant and Stratton Business College . From 1917 he worked in the coal business. Between 1926 and 1928 he served in the administration of the Chicago District Attorney. He then served as chief deputy coroner in forensic medicine until 1930 . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1930 he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in a by- election.
In the 1930 congressional election , Granata was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Democrat Stanley H. Kunz , whom he defeated in the election, on March 4, 1931 . However, Kunz appealed against the result. When this was complied with, Granata had to resign his parliamentary mandate to Kunz on April 5, 1932 and leave the Congress .
In 1932 he competed unsuccessfully for his return to the US House of Representatives. Peter Granata worked in the coal and oil industry until 1933. From 1933 to 1973 he was again a member of the House of Representatives from Illinois. Between 1941 and 1943 he was head of department in the local finance ministry. In 1948 he became vice president of a glass company in Chicago. He died on September 29, 1973 in Chicago, where he was also buried.
