Kent Ellsworth Keller (born June 4, 1867 in Campbell Hill , Illinois , †  September 3, 1954 in Ava , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1931 and 1941 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Kent Keller attended public schools in Ava and then studied until 1890 at Southern Illinois Normal University in Carbondale . In the meantime he worked in the newspaper industry and as a teacher. He was also the founder of Ava Community High School . Between 1891 and 1892 he studied at the University of Heidelberg . After a subsequent law degree at the St. Louis Law School and his admission as a lawyer in 1896, he began to practice in Ava in this profession. From 1899 to 1912 he worked in the mining industry in Mexico . He then returned to Ava, where he dealt with literary affairs. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Illinois Senate from 1913 to 1917 . In June 1916 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , on which President Woodrow Wilson was nominated for re-election.

In the 1930 congressional elections , Keller was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 25th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Republican Edward E. Denison on March 4, 1931 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1941 . Since 1933, most of the federal government's New Deal laws have been passed there under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . In 1940, Keller was not re-elected.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, he returned to literary affairs. Between 1945 and 1946 he was an advisor to the US Ambassador to Mexico. In 1942, 1944, 1948 and 1950, Keller applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. He died in Ava on September 3, 1954.
