John B. Anderson (1965)

John Bayard Anderson (born February 15, 1922 in Rockford , Illinois - † December 3, 2017 in Washington, DC ) was an American lawyer and politician (former Republican).

Anderson served from January 3, 1961 to January 3, 1981 in the United States House of Representatives for the 16th District of Illinois. In 1980, he initially ran unsuccessfully in the primary elections for the Republican nomination for the presidential election, in which he ran as an independent candidate. He received 6.6 percent of the vote, but no votes in the Electoral College . Anderson was briefly discussed as a possible candidate of the Reform Party for the presidential election in 2000 . For the 2008 election, he was considered a supporter of Barack Obama's candidacy .
