Darwin Gale Schisler (born March 2, 1933 in Knox County , Illinois - † February 2, 2020 in London Mills , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1967 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gale Schisler attended public schools in his home country and then Abingdon High School until 1951 . Between 1952 and 1955 he served in the United States Air Force . He then studied until 1959 at Western Illinois University . Between 1959 and 1964 he worked as a teacher and trainer at London Mills Junior High School . In the meantime, he graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville in 1962 . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1964 congressional election , Schisler was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded Republican Robert T. McLoskey on January 3, 1965 . Since he was not confirmed in 1966, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1967 . This was shaped by the events of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement .

Between 1967 and 1969, Gale Schisler headed the Illinois Office of Intergovernmental Cooperation ; from 1968 to 1980 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives . He spent his retirement in London Mills .
