Ransomware W. Dunham

Ransom Williams Dunham (born March 21, 1838 in Savoy , Berkshire County , Massachusetts , †  August 19, 1896 in Springfield , Massachusetts) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1889 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ransom Dunham attended public schools in his home country including Springfield High School . From 1855 to 1857 he was employed by an insurance company. In 1857 he moved to Chicago , where he worked in the grain commission trade. In 1882 he was chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce ( Board of Trade ). Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1882 , Dunham was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded William Aldrich on March 4, 1883 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1889 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Dunham retired. He died on August 19, 1896 on the way to his native Savoy, where he wanted to take part in the 100th anniversary of the city's foundation, and was buried in Chicago.
