Adam Daniel Kinzinger (born February 27, 1978 in Kankakee , Illinois ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). Since 2011 he has represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Adam Kinzinger attended Normal West High School until 1996 and then studied at Illinois State University in Bloomington until 2000 . Between 2003 and 2010 he was a pilot in the United States Air Force . He was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan , among others .

Kinzinger began his political career on the McLean County County Council , of which he was a member from 1998 to 2003.

In the November 2010 election , Kinzinger was elected to the Eleventh Congressional District of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Debbie Halvorson on January 3, 2011 . In Congress , he is a member of the Energy and Trade Committee and two sub-committees. Within the party, he is a member of both the conservative Republican Study Committee and the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership .

In the run-up to the 2012 congressional election , Kinzinger prevailed against his congressional colleague Donald Manzullo in primary . Both applied for re-election after a restructuring of the constituencies in the 16th district. In the actual election, Kinzinger then clearly prevailed with 62 to 38 percent of the vote against the Democrat Wanda Rohl. After three re-elections in 2014, 2016 and 2018, he can still hold office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2021 with the option of a further candidacy in 2020.
