United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce
The United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce is a standing committee of the United States House of Representatives . It was founded in 1795 as the Committee on Commerce and Manufactures , making it one of the oldest committees in the House of Representatives. The current chairman is Frank Pallone ( D - NJ ), the leader of the opposition ( ranking member ) is Greg Walden ( R - OR ).
Area of responsibility
The committee has one of the most extensive functions of any congressional committee. It is responsible for oversight in the following areas: energy supply, health systems, national and international trade, consumer affairs and protection, biomedical research and development, telecommunications, travel and tourism, drug and food monitoring, and environmental protection.
