The United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce is a standing committee of the United States House of Representatives . It was founded in 1795 as the Committee on Commerce and Manufactures , making it one of the oldest committees in the House of Representatives. The current chairman is Frank Pallone ( D - NJ ), the leader of the opposition ( ranking member ) is Greg Walden ( R - OR ).
