Gains and losses
The election for the United States House of Representatives took place on November 6, 2012. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives were re-elected. The presidential and Senate elections also took place on the same day . There were also eleven gubernatorial elections , elections to the parliaments in numerous states and a referendum on the future status of Puerto Rico . The Republicans lost 8 seats to the Democrats but retained their majority with 234: 201 seats. In the Popular Vote, however, the Democrats were ahead.
