The foundation stone for today's SV Kematen was laid in 1946 when a football club was founded in what was then the Kematen refugee camp. On June 5, 1946, the Kemater applied to the Tyrolean Football Association (TFV) to register a “SV Süd-Ost”. The application was rejected on the grounds that foreign athletes were not accepted by the TFV as a closed club, since all players and officials were ethnic Germans from the Romanian-Hungarian-Yugoslav region who were resettled after the Second World War and temporarily in Kematen found a home and a job.

In the autumn of 1947 the “Kematen Workers' Sports Club” was finally founded. A meadow at Michlfeld initially served as a sports field, a year later the SV moved to the sports field at the southern exit of the village, which was leveled by the players and officials themselves. So the Oberinntal fought for the championship in the lowest class, with the ongoing change in the team composition due to constant departures and additions brought difficulties.

When running a youth team became mandatory in 1949, the sports club in Kematen decided to set up a youth team. As a result, sporting success developed increasingly: The Kemater won the championship title three times in the Innsbruck and surroundings class in the late 1950s; the Kemater only achieved promotion to the state league in 1960. Before that, the Kemater always had to compete in the Give promotion qualification defeated.

After a new sports facility was opened in 1968 and the club spent a total of 17 years in the regional league, the club made it to the Alpine league in 1977. The Kemater established themselves there in the following three years and began in 1979 with the construction of a multi-purpose hall and a training area with floodlights. After its completion in 1980, however, the Austrian league system was restructured so that SV Kematen was upgraded back to the regional league.

In the Tyrolean regional league, the sports club held out for another eight years before the Kemater had to enter the fifth-class regional league in 1988. Just four years later, the Melach team made it back to the Tyrolean regional league as runner-up, and the club was relegated two years later.

K11995/96: Introduction of the three-point rule .

As early as 1996, the Kemater made it back to the Tyrolean regional league as champions, from which the sports club left in 2000 due to a lack of quality. Many top performers had left the club or ended their active careers. The attempt to reorganize the team initially failed, so that the Kemater 2003 even relegated to the sixth class regional league. After the sports club marched through to the Tyrolean regional league in the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons, it went back to the fifth division in 2008.

With the state league title in 2011, SV Kematen reached the Tyrolean state league again, and in 2013, after an exciting relegation battle, they returned to the 5th performance class. However, the stay in the Landesliga West lasted only one season. With coach Markus Schnellrieder a new coach could be found who had coaching experience in the second (Wörgl) and third (Hall, Axams) Austrian league. Already in winter the team had 8 points ahead of the second in the table, in the end it was even 15 points ahead of SV Telfs.

As a result, the Blues will play in the top Tyrolean league again from the 2014/15 season and will again be able to compete against major Tyrolean football clubs. As a newcomer, the club reached an excellent 4th place at the end of the season, making SV Kematen the best promoted player in the Tyrolean League.

Kematen sports field

In 2014, the new construction of the grass pitch and a cabin building with 7 cabins were tackled. With a playing field size of 105 × 68 meters, the Kematen sports field is one of the largest in North Tyrol. Since the derby against Zirl (1: 1) on April 18, 2015, the game has been played on the grass pitch again, certainly not a disadvantage for the Kemater team's playground. The official opening and inauguration took place on June 18, 2015, the opening game was played by the fighting teams of Kematen and Oberperfuss, the home side won 2-1.

Due to the fact that the Kematen sports field is really worth seeing, some renowned European top teams such as Ajax Amsterdam, Dynamo Moscow, Eintracht Frankfurt or Feyenoord Rotterdam were invited to friendly matches in the summer of 2015. The Tyrolean champion and cup winner SVG Reichenau relocated its ÖFB Samsung Cup game against Austria Klagenfurt to Kematen.
