The Austrian Football Championship 1970/71 was organized by the Austrian Football Association . The regional leagues east (Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland), middle (Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia) and west (Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg) served as the substructure for the national league . The respective state leagues of the federal state associations acted as the third performance level.
National league
General
In the 1970 / 71t season, an Innsbruck team won the championship for the first time. The pillars were called Pumm, Ettmayer, Wolny, Grausam and Binder. It was a duel with Salzburg Austria, which was pre-decided in the penultimate round. While the Mozartstädter did not get beyond a home 2-2 in Itzling against Wattens, Ettmayer shot his club at Innsbruck Tivoli with four goals at 5-2 over Admira to the title. In the 30th and final round, both Salzburg (2-0 against the Wiener Sportklub) and Innsbruck (4-2 against Wacker Vienna) won their away games - and this game was fateful for SC Wacker Vienna , as it allowed its independence gave up and merged with Admira Energie .
But it was to remain the last season of Wacker Innsbruck for the time being, because in the following year, for economic reasons, they performed together with Wattens as SSW Innsbruck. As a successor to the champions, SSW Innsbruck now played in the 1972 European Cup , Cup winners FK Austria Wien were allowed to take part in the 1972 European Cup , and the defeated clubs SV Austria Salzburg and SK Rapid Wien represented Austrian football in the 1972 UEFA Cup . The two clubs from the capital did the best, each made it to the round of 16, but failed because of Italy's representatives from Turin, namely Torino and Juventus.
curiosity
In the match between GAK and Wattens, result 2: 1 (1: 0), on February 27th there was a strange goal. After the break, the GAK began without goalkeeper Zoran Mišić (born 1937), who was still laced his shoes in the dressing room. Apparently only the guests noticed this constellation and immediately scored the equalizer through Helmut Siber , which was recognized by Referee Höllein (Höller?) Despite protests.
statistics
The championship started with 33 foreigners, only VÖEST Linz, Admira-Energie and Wacker Wien didn't have any.
