The Werksportvereinigung Eisenerz is an Austrian sports club in Eisenerz in Styria with the sports of skiing - football - tennis - volleyball - generation sport - fit - stock sport.

history

The club was founded in 1923 under the name ATUS Eisenerz with the football section. In 1934 the association was banned by the National Socialist Party . After the end of the Second World War, the association resumed its activities as ASV. In 1956 the name WSV Werksportvereinigung Eisenerz appeared for the first time. This rapidly growing association consisted of several sections at that time. The athletes fought in the fields of skiing, stick sports, handball, soccer, tennis, gliding, swimming, table tennis, FIT, ice hockey and athletics. The range of sports facilities was expanded through the construction of the Eisenerz stadium, the summer and winter hills, the Nordic base, the ski lift, the indoor swimming pool and the sports hall, partly by the town of Eisenerz and partly by the Eisenerz factory sports association.

Many athletes in all areas have their roots in the Eisenerz factory sports association, including Reinhold Bachler as Olympic medalist, Kurt Recher as professional ski world champion, Mario Stecher as Olympic champion and the young athletes Lukas Klapfer and David Zauner . The footballers, who have been playing in the championship since 1937, reached their peak in the 1950s and 1960s. They succeeded in advancing from 1st class to the Styrian regional league . After relegation, the WSV-Elf succeeded again in being promoted to the regional league. From 1960 to 1965, the team played under the then coach Kürschner in the second highest Austrian division. In 2019, the league game operation was discontinued, but has already resumed after some negotiations.

The Stockschützen Frauenmauer can proudly look back on a European title in the youth class. Likewise, it was often possible to get a state championship title to Eisenerz. This was also achieved by the Frauenmauer Jugend ice rink and the Stadt ice rink. The tennis ladies from Eisenerz also managed to move up to the highest Styrian league, the Landesliga A. For a few years this league was fought successfully. The handball players were also successful in the national league. The volleyball players are currently playing in the Bundesliga as SG VBV Trofaiach / WSV Eisenerz .
