action

The royal children Tomík and Barborka are on vacation with their grandparents in the mountains, who have retired to the seclusion of nature here for their old age. The children enjoy the simple life and the freedom that is offered to them here. The grandfather is not only king, but also forging with the particularity that as a forge a two-headed dragon has. (In the original dubbing, one head speaks Czech and the other Slovak .)

The dragon Čmoudík almost belongs to the family and even sits at the table. In the evenings, however, he retreats to his cave. In the dragon's cave the children find an old map and Čmoudík tells them the story:

A long time ago a great dragon watched over the entire kingdom that was then divided into three parts. One day the dragon fell in love with the daughter of the king from the upper kingdom, but she loved the prince from the lower kingdom. This made the dragon so angry that it cursed both kingdoms. No one should ever be able to fall in love beyond the borders of their kingdom again. If someone were to resist this, he should turn into a dead tree, stone or forget-me-not . The inhabitants of the kingdoms were only allowed to meet with impunity twice a year, at the times of the equinox . The residents always celebrate these days exuberantly and the kings are also there. The queens wanted nothing more than that their children could become a couple after all, but the curse forbids them to do so. But Princess Adelka and Prince Janko didn't care about the prohibitions, they agreed to meet in the forest for the next day. Nevertheless, they frightened petrified people and trees, but still did not let themselves be dissuaded from going deeper into the forest. This way they get to the dragon's cave, which Adelka thinks is very untidy and sets about tidying up and cleaning something. When the dragon returns to his cave in the evening, he is initially annoyed, but is quickly convinced of the delicious soup that Adelka has made for him. He is also very happy to have such diverse guests, because otherwise he only had the malicious worm snail as company. From then on Adelka and Janko visit the dragon regularly, which the worm snail doesn't like at all.

At the next festival of the equinox, the kings will soon announce their children that they will marry separately from each other according to the curse. But the two of them don't put up with that and meet despite all the bans and house arrests. The next time they visit the kite, they find him very unhappy. He mourns his dragon egg that he accidentally lost and that it ended up in the river. Janka sets out to look for the egg and brings it up from the water. After the dragon keeps it warm, a two-headed dragon hatches from it. The worm snail, of course, rages and thinks the little dragon is a freak, but Adelka and Janko believe that two heads should have double minds.

The dragon is tired of his curse when Adelka and Janko reveal themselves to be lovers. He can't take the curse back himself, but he hopes that the two can still become a couple and gives each of them a gift that should help them not to have to meet their parents' wedding wishes. They have already invited various princes and princesses who will be introducing themselves shortly. With the help of the gifts of the dragon, however, all marriage candidates are driven away. Her parents now see that their children are made for each other and decide to fight the Dragon Curse. But the curse can only be banished if two royal children kiss and sacrifice themselves with it. Adelka and Janko are ready for it. They kiss and instantly transform into two forget-me-nots. The old dragon is very sad about it and very sorry to have cast the curse back then. To redeem Adelka and Janko, there would only be the possibility of illuminating them with the stars from the head of the great dragon in the sky. He can't do it himself, but the little two-headed kite manages to fly up to the sky and fetch the stars despite its much too short wings. After Adelka and Janko have regained their human form, a big wedding party is celebrated.

Tomík and Barborka realize at the end of the story that their grandparents must be Adelka and Janko.

reception

TV Today wrote about the film : "The naive, lukewarm allegory of the separation of the ČSSR would like to connect with old heydays, but it is difficult to convey."

The film service criticizes: “Extremely poorly staged fairytale film developed without charm, speed and esprit, which also disappoints children with its lack of imagination. In the original, the two dragon heads speak Czech and Slovak, which makes the film a crude parable on the history of its production countries. "
