The Kremser Sportclub , KSC for short, is an Austrian football club from the city of Krems in Lower Austria and currently plays in the Lower Austrian Regional League, the fourth highest division in Austria. His club colors are black and white .

history

The club was founded on August 24, 1919 as the 1st Kremser Sport Club with the club colors black and white and joined the Lower Austrian Football Association on October 1, 1919. The Krems club logo, which is still valid today, was created in the founding year. In order to indicate its origin from the district of Stein, the name was changed to Krems-Steiner-Sport-Club (Krems-Steiner SC) on July 22, 1920 , but as early as 1924 the club received the name under which it later became known throughout Austria: Kremser Sports Club .

In 1930 the Kremser SC celebrated its first major success by winning the Austrian amateur championship . In the finals, the Lower Austrians defeated the predecessor of today's Austria Lustenau , the FA Turnerbund Lustenau away with 7: 2 and could even afford a 1: 3 defeat in the home game to win the title. In 1954 the Kremser rose to the State League B for the first time and in 1956 even to the State League A. After the dissolution of the State League B, the sports club was able to hold on to the Regional League East until 1974, before it went back to the State League Lower Austria . From 1977 to 1980 they played again in the 2nd division of the Bundesliga , but then rose again to the national league. 1983 followed the return to the second level in which the Kremser SC continuously developed into a top club in the league.

The next few years were the most successful of the traditional Lower Austrian club. In the 1987/88 season, the then SC Sparkasse Krems sensationally reached the cup final and then won against the seemingly overwhelming FC Swarovski Tirol with 2-0 and 1: 3 due to the away goals rule. To this day, winning the Austrian Cup competition represents the greatest success in the long history of the club. This enabled the Kremers to take part in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1988/89 . There they failed at the GDR Cup winner FC Carl Zeiss Jena after a 5-0 win in Jena and a 1-0 home win in the first round. Due to the cup win, the Kremser were allowed to play for the Supercup, but lost on July 16, 1988 in Krems against the Austrian record champions Rapid Wien after a 1-1 draw with an extremely narrow 1: 3 on penalties.

Through targeted reinforcements (including Hans Krankl ), the Kremser SC grew into a serious force in Austrian football and in 1989, with fourth place in the promotion play-off, even made it to the 1st division of the Bundesliga, in which the Club was able to hold until 1992. The star of the Kremser in the last year of membership in the first division was the Argentine world champion Mario Kempes .

After relegation from the 1st Bundesliga, the club's decline only ended in the fourth-class 1st Lower Austrian Regional League. In 2001 the Kremser managed to get promoted back to the third-class Regionalliga Ost by winning the championship title in this league .

At the general assembly held on January 13, 2006, Herbert Steininger again took over the function of chairman at the Kremser Sportclub. At this general assembly it was officially decided to rename the club from the sponsor name Arriba! Krems to the traditional club name Kremser SC .

In 2007, the Kremser SC was relegated to the fourth-class Lower Austrian regional league . The board was re-elected after relegation and almost all players and the coach left the club. After the 2008/09 season, he was relegated to the fifth class 2. Landesliga West.

In the 2013/2014 season, the sports club did not lose a single competitive game. As a result, they became unbeaten champions and competed in the Lower Austria regional league in the following season 2014/15 .

In the 2014/2015 season the SC Steinertor Krems was runner-up behind the ASK Ebreichsdorf . The team lost only 2 matches this season (after 42 unbeaten games).

Stadium, sports fields and spectators

The home games of the Kremser SC are played in the Sepp Doll Stadium , which was named after the former President Sepp Doll. It can hold 10,000 spectators, with one covered seating and three uncovered standing stands. The facility has a lawn (103 × 67 m) with a 4-mast floodlight system and modern cabins . In addition, the Kremser SC has a youth center opened on August 15, 2000 in Krems-Lerchenfeld. There is also a training ground next to the Krems national sports ground, the Ausportplatz.

There was a record attendance on October 21, 1956, when the game KSC against Rapid Vienna (0: 2) over 10,000 visitors came to the Krems stadium. The first leg of the Austrian Cup final in 1988 against title favorites FC Swarovski Tirol , which KSC won 2-0, was officially played in front of over 9,000 spectators. When Kremser SC was still playing in the Bundesliga , over 9,000 fans came to the stadium against their arch-rivals VSE St. Pölten . However, after relegation from the Bundesliga to the regional league and in 2007 the regional league, audience interest fell significantly.

Since the Kremser SC celebrated sporting success again and moved up from the 2nd regional league West to the 1st regional league, more than 2,500 spectators have visited the Sepp-Doll stadium, which was equipped with new bucket seats in 2013, for top games. The average attendance in the 2014/15 season was almost 600 visitors per game.

Youth work

On August 15, 2000, a youth center for youngsters was opened in the Lerchenfeld district on the sports facility of the former WSV VÖEST Alpine Krems (formerly WSV Hütte Krems).
