Christian Schmölzer (born June 25, 1968 in Möllbrücke ) is a former Austrian soccer goalkeeper and current sports manager . He became known to the general public as the tournament director of EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. He is currently the managing director of the Carinthian Football Academy.

Career

Schmölzer initially guarded the goal of the Carinthian club SV Spittal / Drau from 1985 to 1988. After a car accident he had to interrupt his football career until 1991, after which he played for six months at Kremser SC .

In the 1991/92 season , the Austrian record champions Rapid Wien hired the Carinthian for one season. He then moved to the Favoritner AC within Vienna for two years .

In 1994 he finally came to Vienna Austria , where he immediately became the goalkeeper for a year. After that, the competition from Franz Wohlfahrt became too great and Schmölzer had to return to the second ranks. After an interlude in 1997/98 with ASK Kottingbrunn , he ended his career again with the Veilchen in 1999. Until 2001, he switched to the Vienna coaching team, where he worked as a goalkeeper coach.

He then moved to the administrative area of football. Between 2001 and 2004 Schmölzer was deputy director of the Austrian Bundesliga . From October 1, 2004, he then worked as the tournament director of the European Football Championship in 2008 , after having only been a simple employee from March 1 of the same year.

Since August 3, 2009, Schmölzer has been the club leader of the Austrian Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz . With the exception of the sporting level, which will continue to be supervised by Oliver Kreuzer , he is responsible for the operational and economic management of the club.

After his football career, the Carinthian also studied commercial science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , where he received his doctorate in 2002.
