The Klagenfurt AC was founded in 1909 as the first soccer club in Carinthia with the full name I. Soccer and Athletic Sports Club Klagenfurt . With Realschule Klagenfurt there was already a soccer team in Carinthia against which the Klagenfurt AC played their first game and lost 6-0. The first official competition soon took place against the Styrian club Knittelfelder AC . Together with Austria Klagenfurt , the Klagenfurt AC soon developed into the strongest team in the country and won the first Carinthian state championship in 1921/22 . Also in 1923/24 , 1926/27 , 1928/29 , 1936/37 and 1938/39 the club was able to enter the list of winners and thus represented Carinthia several times at the Austrian amateur championship . The best result was in 1936/37 reaching the East District final against Post SV Wien . The first leg in Vienna was lost 2: 5, with two penalties, but the club won the second leg 4: 2, so that almost the sensation succeeded. As a special honor, Walter Werginz had recently been called to the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, where he won the silver medal with the Austrian team.

After the Second World War, Klagenfurt AC became a founding member of the Tauern League 1949/50 , which now represented the second Austrian level in the Carinthia and Salzburg area. Already in 1950/51 the greatest triumph of the post-war period was achieved with the victory in the second division, but the Klagenfurt AC withdrew from participation in the state league relegation between the state league club LASK Linz and police SV Innsbruck in favor of the second-placed Villacher SV (which ultimately brought the LASK to remain in the State League). The club remained in the second-class Tauern League until the regional league reform in 1959/60 and in the Carinthian regional league after the Carinthian Association left. At the beginning of the 1960s, Peter and Friedrich Koncilia, two later famous national players, began their careers at Klagenfurt AC. By winning the national championship in 1964, the club was finally able to move up to the second-rate regional league center and stayed there for five seasons from 1964/65 to 1968/69 . Since relegation, however, the club has not been able to continue its old successes, in the meantime even rose to the 2nd class (lowest division at all), but managed to return to the fifth class East Lower League, in which the KAC is also currently (2015 / 16) was represented. A guest appearance in the Carinthian League in the 2007/08 season , when the KAC, second in the Lower League East 2006/07, had clearly asserted itself against the second in the Lower League West, SV BW Sachsenburg (A 4: 1, H 6: 1) , only lasted a year.

ice Hockey

Much more successful than the soccer department is the ice hockey department founded in 1923, which is the Austrian record champion with 31 championship titles .
