The Austrian soccer championship 1936/37 was organized by the WFV club and contested by its members, or handed over to the national league committee during the season. The two-pronged II. League served as a substructure for the I. League . These leagues were only accessible to professional football clubs . In addition, other federal state associations organized state championships in different modes on an amateur basis. The respective amateur national champions then also played a master at the amateur championship.

I. League

General

The championship in the I. League was contested with 12 teams who met each other twice during the entire season. Austrian football champion was Admira, who won her sixth championship title and qualified for the Mitropa Cup in 1937 . The ÖFB Cup winner Vienna and Austria, who came second in the championship, were also eligible to participate. Since the national league reform provided a way to the ten league, the three bottom of the table had to go to the II. League (1937/38 I. League).

Relegation

As a provincial club, SK Sturm Graz, registered for the professional championship for the first time this season, the number of participants in the relegation increased from two to three. This fact was desired, because the National League Committee under Leo Schidrowitz was supposed to make the professional championship attractive to the amateur federal state clubs.

II. League

General

In the II. League a North League and a South League was staggered, in which 14 teams, who met twice during the entire season, played for promotion to the National League, which was renamed the next year. The two top two SPC Helfort (North) and 1. Simmeringer SC (South) then played in the relegation for promotion to the National League. The introduction of the single-track I. League as the second level in the coming season results in the high number of relegated teams.
