The Austrian Football Championship 1950/51 was organized by the Austrian State Football League Association. The also professionally run State League B served as the substructure for State League A , but only clubs from Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Upper Austria, Styria and Innsbruck police played a Tyrolean club. For the other clubs from the west (and with Carinthia from the south) of Austria, in which there was still no professional operation, the Tauern League (Salzburg and Carinthia) and the Arlbergliga (Tyrol, Vorarlberg) were organized on an amateur basis. The respective state leagues of the federal state associations acted as the third performance level.
First level - State League A
General
In the championship season 1950/51 Rapid was Austrian football champion for the 17th time, especially with a new point record. The green-whites shone especially in the storm - 133 goals in 24 games, an average of 5.54 meant an outstanding record. 37 goals were scored by Robert Dienst , who became the top scorer and exceeded the record set by Admiraner Anton Schall from the 1927/28 season by one; only 27 years later - 1977/78 - was the record - again by a Rapid player, Hans Krankl - beaten with 41 goals.
The Hütteldorfer's strongest rival was Wacker, who scored 100 goals worth mentioning, but tripped itself with two defeats against relegated Steyr.
Among the relegated SK Vorwärts Steyr proved to be insufficiently competitive and not to be trained by frequent coach changes. 37 years later, in 1988, the rise should be successful. At FS Elektra, which also suffered from two serious injuries to its goalkeeper Schabes, it was the only season at the top. The kickers from 1. Wiener Neustädter SC took a middle course, who acted historically worth remembering, especially with their 0:10 at the sports club and the 0: 9 at Sturm Graz , which should be successful again before the end of the decade.
Viewer
Overall, the Austrians were less enthusiastic about this season than the previous one. Instead of an average of 7,250 per game, there were only 6,500 per game. A total of 1,025,000 viewers in 156 games. The great Vienna Derby alone attracted more than 10% of them: 55,000 and 58,000 spectators. After the two top Viennese clubs, Linz with 100,000, Wacker with 90,000 and Graz with 85,000 spectators were particularly popular.

In 1950/51 there was no national league-level championship in Vorarlberg, so there was no national champion from Vorarlberg who was promoted to the Arlbergliga. Since the Arlbergliga was the top division of Vorarlberg from the point of view of the Vorarlberg Football Association, the champions of the Arlbergliga, SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz, were also Vorarlberg champions.
Vienna League
In Vienna, a regional league was introduced as the third level of performance and a championship was played for the first time at the Vienna level.
