ESV Austria Graz is an Austrian football club from the Styrian capital Graz . Since 2004, after a merger with ASV Puch - the former works team of the Puch-Werke - he has appeared as FK Austria-ASV Puch and currently plays in the seventh-class regional division middle .

history

ESV Austria Graz was founded in 1921 under the name SC Südbahn Graz and soon after it was founded it joined the Styrian Football Association. In 1925, Südbahn played for the first time in the Styrian regional league and from 1931 regularly took part in the state's highest league . The club was mostly able to place itself in the midfield and always keep the class. During the Second World War, Südbahn had to bear the name Reichsbahn Graz as a railway association and was able to win the Styrian state championship for the first time in 1943/44.

After the Second World War, there was an upswing among the southern railroaders, who in 1948 added the new name ESV Austria Graz. They only narrowly missed participation in the 1949 Bundesländer Cup , against Sturm they forced three decisive games in the Styrian Cup final with 2: 2, 0: 0, 2: 2 and 2: 4. In 1950 they went into professional business and missed the relegation to the A-League , so that they got into the B-League . Always among the top five, Graz Austria qualified second in 1955 for relegation to the A-League. It was a tough fight with FC Dornbirn in 1913 , which went into a play-off on neutral ground in Linz after a 2-2 and 3-3 win. Two goals from Rumpf and Gergits made the greatest triumph in the club's history perfect, with a surprisingly clear 4-0, Graz Austria was in the A-League.

In the 1955/56 season , the railway association experienced a magical dream start in the highest Austrian league. In the very first duel, the derby against the GAK was on the program, which was won 2-1 away from home. In the second round there was the next big derby against Sturm, which Austria won 1-0. The first duel with a Viennese club, the 1: 6 against 1. Simmeringer SC , showed the Benjamin of the league for the first time the limits. The club had to come to terms with the relegation battle. Before the last game day they were still on the saving 12th of 14 places, but a guest appearance at Rapid seemed an insoluble task; The only year in the highest Austrian league ended with a 0: 7.

The club came back to the B-League and after its dissolution in 1959 in the new Regionalliga Mitte , which now represented the second division. After relegation to the regional league in 1962, Graz Austria was never able to match previous successes, but gradually fell back. After relegation from the regional league in mid-2006, the club only played in the first class middle, which is part of the eighth Austrian level. In the 2008/2009 season, the team was promoted to the regional league center.
