Gereon R. Fink

Gereon Rudolf Fink (born April 23, 1964 in Cologne ) is a German neurologist and neuroscientist .

Life

Fink studied medicine in Cologne from 1982 to 1989. From 2004 to 2006, Fink was the deputy director of the neurological clinic at the Aachen University Hospital and professor of neurology at RWTH Aachen University . Since 2005 he has been director at the Institute for Neurosciences and Medicine 3 (Cognitive Neurosciences), Research Center Jülich , and since 2006 professor and director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Neurology at the University of Cologne .

He is the author of several hundred specialist articles (including in Nature and Science ) and the editor of numerous monographs, book chapters and books. His research includes experiments on how the human brain works , the effects of a stroke , cognitive neuroscience and the development of new neurological therapy methods.

In 2011/2012 he was President of the German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging (DGKN). In the 2017/2018 year of office, Fink was President of the German Society for Neurology (DGN).

From 2015 to 2019 Fink was vice dean at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne, for the term of office from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2023 he was elected as its dean .

Fink is married and has three children. His father is the former Cologne local politician ( CDU ) and board member of GAG Immobilien AG, Joseph Fink.

  • 2008: 1st prize in the hospital innovation competition (for the Cologne Consultant Concept developed in the Cologne clinic , a model of medical care in hospitals)
  • 2009: International Research Prize of the Fürst Donnersmarck Foundation
  • 2015: Max Delbrück Prize from the University of Cologne
