The Eisenstadt Sports Club, or SCE for short , is the football club of the Burgenland capital Eisenstadt , Austria . He currently plays in the 2nd class north in Burgenland . His club colors are red and white.
Until the beginning of May 2008 the club played in the Regionalliga Ost , the third highest division in Austria, before it had to stop playing for financial reasons. For a long time, the SCE was the figurehead of Burgenland football, playing in the Austrian Bundesliga for 13 years .
In 2018, SC Eisenstadt resumed operations under new management. They started in the lowest Burgenland league, 2nd class north.
history
The club was founded in 1907 as Kismarton FC . At that time Eisenstadt belonged as Kismarton to the Hungarian half of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. SC Eisenstadt experienced its most successful times in the 1970s and 80s. Overall, the football club was represented 13 times in the Bundesliga , namely in the seasons 1968 to 1970, 1972 to 1975, 1980/81 and 1982 to 1987. However, there were no major national successes. The best placement was achieved by the Eisenstadt team with 8th place in 1985. In 1967, 1971 and 1980 they were champions of the second highest division three times when they were promoted. The greatest success in the club's history was winning the international Mitropacup in 1984. You could successfully prevail against FK Pristina , FK Teplice and Vasas Budapest .
Sporty and financially things went downhill in 1988, when the club had to file for bankruptcy and could only avoid liquidation through compulsory compensation. In the 2006/07 season, Eisenstadt once again seemed to be about to end when the club was supposed to be banned from continuing games due to debts of over 6,000 euros with the Burgenland Football Association. With the entry of entrepreneur Richard Trenkwalder at the beginning of 2007 as a new sponsor, who paid off all of the club's debts, the continued operation of the game could be guaranteed.
From the 2007/08 season, SC Eisenstadt and SC Ritzing will form a syndicate. SC Eisenstadt wintered in the 2007/08 season as bottom of the table with 5 points and a goal difference of −28. In spring 2008, insolvency proceedings were initiated against the club, as a result of which the game was stopped 6 rounds before the end of the season on May 2, 2008.
Stadion
Up until the 2006/07 season, the home games of SC Eisenstadt were played in the 14,700-seat Lindenstadion . From summer 2007 all home games were played in the Sonnensee Stadium in Ritzing , which at that time could hold around 4,500 visitors.
The Lindenstadion was picked and found to be in disrepair; the soccer goals were dismantled shortly afterwards. The SC Eisenstadt played in the stadium in Antau since the beginning of the 2007/08 spring season . The stadium is to be dismantled and returned to the palace grounds as a park.
With the start- up, the question arose where to play in the future. Since the Lindenstadion was still in disrepair, it was decided to move to Schützen am Gebirge, some 8 kilometers away . For the next three years it is planned that the home games will be played on this sports field.

In June 2016 some founded interested around chairman Hans Kusolits and the former Austrian national soccer player Paul Scharner with the SC Eisenstadt 1907 a new club is to connect to the story of the historic SC Eisenstadt. However, this attempt failed. Scharner left the club and Kusolits resigned. The club was then taken over by a new board team, which had been planning the complete rebuilding under the original club name "SC Eisenstadt" under the leadership of chairman Christopher Görz since autumn 2017. The entry into the Burgenland championship took place in the 2018/19 season. In March 2019, a new chairman, Michael Billes, was elected at a general assembly after Christopher Görz could no longer be available for private reasons. He was elected honorary president because of his services to the revival of SC Eisenstadt.
They started in the lowest Burgenland division, 2nd class north. For the first two years, the game was played on the sports field in Schützen am Gebirge , as no such facility was available in Eisenstadt. On July 30, 2020, representatives of the association and politics announced the return of the association to the state capital at a press conference. The SC Eisenstadt has been playing its games on the newly built athletics arena since August 2020.
