The Ritzing Sports Club is a football club from the Burgenland town of Ritzing in Austria , near the Hungarian border. The club currently plays in the Landesliga Burgenland , the fourth highest division in Austria. The club colors are blue-yellow.

history

The SC Ritzing was founded in 1963 and initially played for several years in the lowest division of Burgenland, the 2nd class C. In 1985 the club won the championship title of this class and rose to the next higher league, the 1st class, but was able to don't hold in her. It took more than a decade for the Burgenlanders to move up again in 1997, this time in first class with ten points ahead of SV Lutzmannsburg. This marked the beginning of the sports club's most successful period to date. In 1999 the SC Ritzing was first class champion, a year later champions of the second league and thus rose to the Burgenland league , the fourth highest division in Austria.

First promotion to the Regionalliga Ost

Here too, SC Ritzing was soon able to play for the title. After the runner-up title in 2002 and third place in 2003, the championship title and promotion to the Regionalliga Ost succeeded in 2004 . In the promotion season - under coach Hans Reissner and assistant coach Gerhard Hellmann - the Ritzinger could dominate the league; the runner-up ASK Baumgarten was 16 points behind Ritzing at the end of the season.

Before the start of this game year, SC Ritzing played its most famous game. On July 23, 2003, the club received the English runner-up Arsenal London as part of a friendly game to mark their 40th anniversary . With two goals from Roland Sebesta and Oliver El Senosy, the then fourth division team surprisingly took the lead 2-0 at the break, but had to accept an equalizer in the 85th minute with a penalty to make it 2-2.

The SC Ritzing has now established itself in the regional league and finished eleventh in the 2004/05 season . On July 24, 2005 , one of the most modern stadiums at this performance level was opened with the Sonnenseestadion , which can hold around 5,000 visitors. SC Ritzing played the opening game again against Arsenal, who this time played in the "revenge game" with their best line-up and won 5-2.

But after the third season in the Regionalliga Ost, relegation was back to the Burgenland League. In this league, too, the SC Ritzing took last place and there was another relegation, this time to the II.

Second promotion to the Regionalliga Ost

In the 2008/09 season, the SC Ritzing was the first of the II. Middle League under coach Franz Ponweiser and assistant coach Karl Bruna to rise to the Burgenland League, a year later they rose as a regional league champion in the Regionalliga Ost.

In the 2009/10 season, SC Ritzing was able to celebrate the title again. With a march through, the team of trainer Franz Ponweiser managed to return to the Regionalliga Ost. Keeper Hannes Weninger and veteran Marek Kausich , a former Bundesliga player for SV Mattersburg , were key players in this success.

Before the start of the 2010/11 season, the SC Ritzing joined forces with the 2nd class middle club ASK Lackendorf to form SC Ritzing / Lackendorf. The 1b team then played their home games on the sports facility in Lackendorf and played in 1st class middle. After the autumn season, the team supervised by Hans Reißner took 3rd place. At the end of the season, the 1b team became champions and rose to the middle of the II. League. Key players this season were keeper Christian Stibi, defender Thomas Reissner and midfielder Christopher Lapatschek.

This merger was dissolved again at the end of the 2010/11 season and a new cooperation was entered into with SC Unterfrauenhaid. The games of the 1b team took place on the sports facility in Unterfrauenhaid . The East League team also showed on their return to the third highest division. At the end of the championship, she finished fifth. In the 2011/12 season, the East League team finished 7th and 1b team 14th. This cooperation with SC Unterfrauenhaid was also terminated at the end of the season.

From the 2012/13 season the club will play again without a partner club. The Regionalliga team took 14th place and was only just able to escape relegation; the 1b team took 15th place in the final table.

In the 2013/14 season, the regional league team switched to professional operation in January 2013. In addition to Stefan Rapp , Robert Hochstaffl was appointed as manager. At the end of the season, SC Ritzing took fourth place. The 1b team finished tenth.

In the summer of 2014, the association slipped into bankruptcy proceedings . The Eisenstadt regional court opened restructuring proceedings with self-administration. The cause was "differences of opinion with the Burgenland regional health insurance fund with regard to the social security components of various player contracts". This asserted claims of 300,000 euros from 2003 to 2008, of which 245,000 euros were ultimately legally recognized. In total, liabilities of 571,000 euros were offset by assets of 106,000 euros. In order to secure the continued existence of the association, the creditors were offered a restructuring plan with a quota of 30 percent.

Championship title in the Regionalliga Ost

The team was further strengthened in the 2014/15 season . Stefan Rapp managed to form a powerful team that ultimately won the championship title before SC-ESV Parndorf in 1919 . This was the greatest success in the club's history. Despite winning the title, SC Ritzing was not allowed to move up the promotion games to the first division , as the Bundesliga refused to grant her a license, although the club believed that all conditions were met. Since this would have been associated with high costs, the club ultimately decided not to go to the independent court of arbitration of the Austrian Football Association . Instead of the Ritzinger, the Parndorfer played the promotion games, but failed at SK Austria Klagenfurt .

New start in the II. League Middle

In the summer of 2017, SC Ritzing announced that it would withdraw from the Regionalliga Ost and continue its play in the II. Central League instead of the second team. After coach Stefan Rapp left the club before the end of the championship, Josef Furtner, who had previously coached the second team, followed him in the summer. Mario Posch , who has already gained experience as a coach in the Bundesliga and was most recently active as an assistant coach at SC Wiener Neustadt , was hired as the sporting director . The club wants to restart under him. This task will be difficult enough as almost all of the players on the previous fighting team left the club in the summer.
