The soccer club Gleisdorf 09 is a soccer club from Gleisdorf in Styria . The club has been playing in the third highest performance level, the Regionalliga Mitte , since the 2016/17 season .

history

FC Gleisdorf 09 was created in June 2009 through the merger of SC Gleisdorf 1919 and ATUS Gleisdorf 1952 . In the 2009/10 season, the first as FC Gleisdorf 09, the club reached seventh place in the fourth-class Styrian regional league and again took part in the ÖFB-Cup , where they failed in the first main round at the regional division Grazer AK .

In the 2010/11 season, FC Gleisdorf 09 finished the championship of the Styrian regional league in third place. In the following playing years 2011/12 and 2012/13, FC Gleisdorf 09 placed fourth and fifth respectively in the Styrian regional league. In the 2013/14 season, FC Gleisdorf 09 finished second in the Styrian regional league for the first time and thus positioned itself behind SC Weiz , the newly promoted to the Middle Regional League .

At the beginning of the following 2014/15 season, FC Gleisdorf 09 was rated as a competitor for promotion, but ultimately placed third in the final table, which was led by champions Deutschlandsberger SC . In the ÖFB Cup , FC Gleisdorf 09 failed again in the first round against a regional league team, this time at FC Kufstein .

In the 2015/16 season, FC Gleisdorf 09 lived up to its role as favorites. In the eleventh year of its membership in the top division of Styria, the Gleisdorf club became champions of the Styrian regional league and for the first time rose to the regional league middle , the third highest division in Austria.

As the national champion in 2016, FC Gleisdorf 09 was again eligible to play in the ÖFB Cup and failed in the third attempt in the first round, this time against league rivals TSV Hartberg , who is now the 2017 champion of the Regionalliga Mitte . The 2016/17 game year was very successful for FC Gleisdorf 09 in the third highest division.

FC Gleisdorf 09 finished the 2016/17 championship as third in the table and thus achieved the best placement that a club of the three participating associations has been able to achieve to date as promoted to the Middle Regional League . The 2016/17 season was not successful for the newcomers from Carinthia and Upper Austria. Both the ATSV Wolfsberg (KFV) and the SV Grieskirchen (OÖFV) had to relegate to the respective national league as the last and penultimate in the final table of the Regionalliga Mitte .

The 2016/17 game year was also very successful for the second combat team. FC Gleisdorf 09 II won the 2017 championship in the sixth class lower division and is eligible to play in the fifth class upper division from the 2017/16 season. With the KM II, young players of FC Gleisdorf 09 are given the opportunity to qualify in the lower-class championship competition for assignments in KM I in the Central Regionalliga . The third-rate regional league middle obliges their clubs to enter at least four players eligible to play for a U-22 team in the match report for each championship game, whereby at least one of these young players must also be used in the basic line-up.

FC Gleisdorf 09 completed the 2017/18 game year again in the Regionalliga Mitte , finished the championship second in the table and thus qualified for promotion to the 2nd division , but voluntarily refrained from participating in the championship competition in Austria's second highest soccer league. FC Gleisdorf 09's participation in the 2017/18 ÖFB Cup was prolonged with a win against ATUS Ferlach (Kärntner Liga) , but ended in the second round after a defeat against Wolfsberger AC (Bundesliga) .

In the 2018/19 game year, FC Gleisdorf 09 also took part in the championship in the Regionalliga Mitte and finished second in the table and runner-up . In October 2019, the Gleisdorf solar stadium, which opened in 2002, was commissioned by the Bundesliga for the first time and approved as a venue for the 2nd league , Austria's second-highest division. An application by FC Gleisdorf 09 for admission to the 2nd division was in preparation, but was not submitted to the Bundesliga due to a board decision at the beginning of March 2019 .

The participation of FC Gleisdorf 09 in the ÖFB Cup 2018/19 ended in the first round with a defeat in the away game against FC Stadlau ( Regionalliga Ost ). As runner-up in the 2018/19 championship in the Regionalliga Mit te, FC Gleisdorf 09 also qualified for participation in the 2019/20 ÖFB Cup.

From November 2014 to April 2019, Andreas Moriggl was head coach of FC Gleisdorf 09, with whom he became champion of the Styrian regional league in 2016 and thus led the club to the Regionalliga Mitte , the third highest division in Austrian football, for the first time . In the three game years so far, FC Gleisdorf 09 was able to finish the championship competition in the Regionalliga in mid-2017 as third in the table, in 2018 and 2019 as second.

From May 2019 to June 2019, the former Bundesliga coach Markus Karner acted as head coach of FC Gleisdorf 09. Together with assistant coach Thomas Raffl, he oversaw the last seven games (5 wins, 2 defeats) of the second half of the 2018/19 game year in the Regional league middle .
