history
Between and after the war
The club was founded in 1924 as the football section of ATuS Weiz. After the Second World War, ATuS Weiz played in the East Group (3rd class in Styria) and in 1947 rose to the 2nd class as a master. In 1950 the championship title in this division was followed by promotion to 1st class and in 1952 the next promotion to the Styrian regional league. After eight seasons in the regional league, relegation to the lower league followed in 1960.
Regional league and elevator years
In 1965 the ATuS Weiz returned to the regional league. The club celebrated its greatest success to date in the club's history in 1970 when it won the championship in the third-class regional league and consequently rose to the regional league for the first time , which was then the second-highest level in Austria. The ATuS Weiz team was able to assert itself there for four seasons, before the forced relegation to the regional league followed in 1974 - due to the introduction of the two-tier Bundesliga.
Four years later, the team was relegated to the minor league and in the following years commuted between the minor league and the regional league. In 1993, the club, now called Sportclub Weiz, was able to rise to the newly created league with the championship title, before being promoted to what is now the fourth-class regional league again in 1999. After relegation in the following season, the repeated promotion to the fourth division succeeded in 2001.
Resurgence
On June 8, 2007, SC Weiz concluded the 2006/07 regional league season with a draw against FC Groß-Klein in first place, which after 1970 meant renewed promotion to the regional league center, which is now the third-highest division . In the 2010/11 season, the club had to relegate back to the national league. In the 2013/14 season, SC Weiz again managed to move up to the regional league by eleven points from second-placed FC Gleisdorf 09.
