The Junge Wikinger Ried are the second team of the Austrian Bundesliga club SV Ried . The team has been playing in the Regionalliga Mitte , the third highest division , since the 2019/20 season .
history
The amateurs of Ried took part in the 1999/2000 season for the first time in the ÖFB Cup , in which they failed in the first round at the second division club SV Braunau . In the 2000/01 season they took part again after a preliminary round victory against SK St. Magdalena and failed again in the first round, this time at the regional division SV Stockerau . In 2003 the amateurs of Ried rose from bottom of the table in the Upper Austrian League in the fifth-class national league .
For the 2004/05 season one went into a syndicate with SV Riedau . The SG took seventh place in the Landesliga West in the 2004/05 season. After one season, the syndicate with Riedau was dissolved again in 2005 and a syndicate was entered into with the sixth-class SV Neuhofen . The new syndicate appeared in the 2005/06 season in the District League South , in which one was runner-up. In the 2006/07 season they became runner-up again. In the 2007/08 season they became champions and were promoted to the national league, now competing in the West group. In the 2008/09 season they took part as the Upper Austrian Cup winner again in the ÖFB Cup and after a first round win against SC Schwaz reached the second round for the first time, in which they were defeated by the Bundesliga team SK Sturm Graz . In the first season after returning to the regional league, they were promptly champions and marched through to the Upper Austrian league.
In the 2009/10 season, the syndicate took fourth place. In the 2010/11 season they finished fourth again, in the cup they qualified for the main round after beating FC Wels , but in the first round they were eliminated against Bundesliga club FK Austria Wien . The team finished sixth in the 2011/12 season. In the 2012/13 season, the Rieder finished fifth, in the 2013/14 season, with tenth place, for the first time, no single-digit place in the table followed. In the 2014/15 season they only finished eleventh. In the 2015/16 season things went up a bit with ninth place. In the 2016/17 season they finished eleventh and had a four point lead on the relegation ranks.
After the 2016/17 season, the syndicate with Neuhofen was dissolved after twelve years and from then on they appeared as Junge Wikinger Ried . In the first season without Neuhofen they finished 14th and only escaped relegation to the regional league because of the better goal difference compared to ASV St. Marienkirchen . The 2018/19 season was supposed to be completely opposite: The young Vikings were runner-up three points behind ASKÖ Oedt and were promoted to the Middle Regional League for the first time after he renounced promotion . In this, the team finished 13th in the 2019/20 debut season after 17 match days before the championship was prematurely canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
