The sports association Guntamatic Ried iI, 1912 is a football club from the Upper Austrian town of Ried im Innkreis in Austria and currently plays in the top division, the Bundesliga . The professional football department has been outsourced to SV Ried Fußball GmbH since January 1, 2017 , of which the club is the sole shareholder.

General

With the involvement of the sponsor, the club currently bears the official name SV Guntamatic Ried (previously SV Josko Ried). The club colors are black and green. The former home of SV Ried was the stadium of the city of Ried , since October 2003 the games have been played in a newly built pure football stadium, which offers space for 7,300 spectators and has been called josko Arena since June 2018 by agreement with the name sponsor Josko Windows and Doors GmbH . After 12 seasons in the 1st Bundesliga , the club was relegated to the first division in 2017 . In the following two years, the club narrowly missed promotion twice. In the 2019/2020 season , he was promoted back to the Bundesliga.

history

Beginnings of the association

SV Ried was founded in 1912 and played in Upper Austrian 1st and 2nd class (the two lowest leagues) until 1955, interrupted by the world wars . After the First World War, the football club first appeared as the football club (FC) Germania Ried in 1919. FC Germania Ried was one of five founding members of the football association for Upper Austria and Salzburg that was lifted from the eaves in 1919. From 1920, the Ried football club appeared as SV Ried, the renaming took place in the course of the general meeting in November 1919. In 1955, they were promoted to the regional league, but four years later they were relegated to the first class west . In 1962, he was promoted again to the district league, which has now been introduced, and in 1970 was further promoted to the 2nd regional league, where you always played up front until promotion to the 1st regional league in 1976 and never went worse than 5th.

Promotion to the Bundesliga

SV Ried played in the 1st regional league until 1991, and was runner-up in 1986, as well as Innviertel Cup winner and Upper Austrian regional cup winner. In 1988 and 1990 they won two championships, but did not make it to what was then the 2nd division of the Austrian Bundesliga in the necessary qualifying games. In both years they failed in the relegation tournament at the Carinthian club Wolfsberger AC . In 1991 SV Ried was able to celebrate the 3rd national championship title and crowned the season with promotion to the 2nd division. In the relegation tournament, SV Ried prevailed against SVL Flavia Solva ( Styria ) and SVG Bleiburg ( Carinthia ). Klaus Roitinger , who was still a player-coach at the time and who became a kind of cult coach through later successes and loyalty to the club, played a decisive role in the rise , with 2 goals in the decisive game against Flavia Solva, which SV Ried won 3-0 in front of a record crowd of 5,000 spectators could decide. Towards the end of their debut season in the Bundesliga, SV Ried was in a relegation zone, and immediate relegation seemed almost inevitable. But in one of the most important games in the club's history, SV Ried was able to defeat SR Donaufeld, who was already feeling safe, in the last round on June 3, 1992 in a direct duel thanks to a goal by Christian Mayrleb with a 1-0 away win in Vienna Overtake point, and thus secure the league in the 2nd division, which only made the highs of the following years possible. After 4 years in the second Austrian division, the second place in the second division succeeded in relegating against the ninth in the first division, FC Linz , on June 24, 1995 to the highest league in Austria. In the media one could read about the "football miracle Ried".

Promotion to the 1st Bundesliga, first cup win, relegation

From 1995 to 2003, SV Ried played in the 1st Bundesliga and, with the exception of the very last matchday in 2003, was never relegated.

In 1998, SV Ried won the ÖFB Cup , with SK Sturm Graz defeated 3-1 (2-0) in the final at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium in Vienna .

In the subsequent European Cup Winners' Cup , the SVR played their home games in the stadium of the city of Linz , as the old Ried stadium did not have enough seats. In the first round, MTK Budapest was thrown out of the competition with two wins (2-0, 1-0), in the second round the Rieder celebrated a 2-1 home win against Maccabi Haifa , but lost in the second leg on November 5, 1998 1: 4 and eliminated.

In 2003, SV Ried was relegated to the first league with a curious finish , but a few months later they received the Fill Metallbau Stadium, a new Bundesliga-compatible stadium with space for 7,680 spectators.

The coaches in the first Bundesliga phase of SV Ried were Klaus Roitinger (July 1, 1988 to June 30, 1999), Heinz Hochhauser (July 1, 1999 to June 30, 2000), Helmut Kronjäger (July 1, 2000 to June 20 , 2000) . April 2001), Alfred Tatar (July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002) and Gerhard Schweitzer (July 1, 2002 to officially June 30, 2003 - for the last three games of the relegation season 2002/2003, however, Klaus Roitinger returned to the coaching post ).

In the second division, the SVR was initially trained by Petar Segrt - but only for four months due to problems with the players and differences with the board. On November 11, 2003 Andrzej Lesiak took over as coach for the rest of the season. From July 1, 2004, Heinz Hochhauser followed him again , with whom the SVR managed to rise again in 2005. After a year in the Bundesliga, Hochhauser moved to Red Bull Salzburg , where he was in charge of youth work and later became sports director. His successor was Helmut Kraft .

Promotion and top placements

On May 24, 2005, SV Ried fixed their promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga with a 3-2 home win (after 0-2 deficit) against FC Gratkorn in the penultimate round of the championship (the last game away against runner-up Kapfenberg was ob the goal difference was just a matter of form, but it was also won 3: 2). The top scorer was Sanel Kuljic with 34 goals, a record since the ten league was founded. In addition, SV Ried set a new record in the First League with 77 points.

With a club budget of only 3.2 million euros, SV Ried was the Bundesliga club in the 2005/06 promotion season that had the least financial resources. Nevertheless, the SVR developed into a major football power in the domestic Fill Metallbau Stadium . Between September 10, 2004 (0: 2 against FC Kärnten) and April 8, 2006 (1: 2 against Pasching ) she did not suffer a home defeat in 27 competitive games in the first and second division in the new stadium. In the 2005/06 season, SV Ried under coach Heinz Hochhauser achieved 4th place in the Bundesliga, the best placement in the club's history up to that point and thus qualified for the UI Cup .

In the UI Cup 2006, SV Ried was able to throw Dinamo Tiflis ( Georgia ) (3: 1/1: 0) and FC Tiraspol ( Moldova ) (3: 1/1: 1) out of the competition and thus reached the second round of UEFA Cup qualification . Here, however, the Rieder failed against FC Sion from Switzerland. After a 0-0 win in Ried, the SVR lost 0-1 away. The goal scorer for FC Sion was ex-Ried goalgetter Sanel Kuljic , who had moved from Ried to Switzerland just a few weeks earlier.

In the 2006/07 Bundesliga season, Ried was temporarily in last place in the table after initial problems, for which the new coach Helmut Kraft was also responsible. With a considerable race to catch up (including twelve unbeaten games in a row in autumn, wins in all seven home games in spring and five wins in the last five championship games), SV Ried was able to work its way up the table again and ended the season in 2nd place - for which coach Helmut Kraft was also made responsible. The runner-up title is for SV Ried - alongside the ÖFB Cup victories in 1998 and 2011 - one of the greatest successes in the club's history.

Change of coach and upheaval

Most of the regular team could be retained for the 2007/08 Bundesliga season, and the transfer market was mainly made up of young hopefuls. Incidental incident: The second league home game was lost against FK Austria Wien with 0: 1, the decisive goal was scored by Sanel Kuljic , of all people , the former Rieder top scorer who had returned from Switzerland. Nevertheless, while the game was still in progress, many Ried fans celebrated Sanel Kuljic for his earlier services to SV Ried.

In the first round of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup qualification , SV Ried threw Neftçi Baku ( Azerbaijan ) out of the competition with a total score of 4: 3 (3: 1/1: 2) . As in the previous year, the opponents in the second round of the UEFA Cup qualification were FC Sion from Switzerland. After a 1: 1 for the SVR in the first leg in Ried, the Rieder had no chance in the second leg in Sion and suffered a 3-0 defeat.

On October 22nd, 2007, after brief negotiations and for family reasons, coach Helmut Kraft moved to FC Wacker Innsbruck as sports director . At this point in time, the SVR was in 6th place in the table after a 3-0 derby win against LASK Linz . Thomas Weissenböck and Gerhard Schimpl, the previous co-trainers, took over the vacant trainer position on an interim basis. In December 2007, Thomas Weissenböck was appointed head coach for the 2008 spring season. After a negative series by SV Ried (including only one point from twelve away games), Weissenböck was given a leave of absence on April 6, 2008, three rounds before the championship ended. Michael Angerschmid took over the training for the last 3 games of the season. SV Ried finished the turbulent 2007/08 season in 7th place.

On May 8th, 2008, the club announced that the 47-year-old former Pasching, Rapid and Austria-Wien coach Georg Zellhofer has received a two-year contract. The former head coach of the SVR and former U20 national team coach Gerhard Schweitzer, one of Zellhofer's preferred candidates, was hired as assistant coach. The coaching team was completed by Michael Angerschmid , who also looks after the SVR amateur team. Due to different ideas in the squad policy, Zellhofer left SV Ried on July 2, 2008, one week before the start of the league. In the first game of the season against Altach , which was won 3-0, Schweitzer looked after the team on an interim basis. The following day, Paul Gludovatz was introduced as the official successor. The long-standing youth coach of the ÖFB , popularized by the success of the Austrian U20 team at the 2007 World Cup, signed a two-year contract and took up his post on July 11, 2008. Gerhard Schweitzer, with whom Gludovatz had already worked on the U20 national team, remained assistant coach.

The SV Ried Bundesliga team celebrated an away win in the 2009/10 season

The 2008/09 season ended the SV Ried in fifth place, received the fewest goals conceded of all teams in the league and remained unbeaten in their own stadium as the only team in Austrian professional football. With 60 points, the team set a new club record - the 2007 runner-up mark was exceeded by four points. An international starting place was only missed because of the worse goal difference - in the direct play-off in the sold-out stadium you should have won +3 against Sturm Graz in round 36, after an early 0-2 deficit, goals from Salihi, Nacho and Drechsel (94. Minute by repeated penalty) only the home record can be saved. In the cup they were eliminated in the quarterfinals after penalty shoot-out against the second division Admira Wacker.

The season 2009/10 ended the SV Ried after a strong autumn and a weak spring season on table rank 8; In the ÖFB Cup, the team reached the semi-finals (home defeat against the eventual cup winner Sturm Graz).

Second cup win

In the 2010/11 season the club achieved the autumn championship title of the Bundesliga with 34 points , one of the club's greatest sporting successes to date, two weeks later the unofficial title of the winter king was fixed with a 1-0 win over Wiener Neustadt. In the second half of the season, the Upper Austrians could not quite build on the performance from autumn 2010 (in contrast to autumn you had to be satisfied with one point in many games) and took 4th place in the Bundesliga final table.

The highlight of the season was the second cup win. After defeating future champions Sturm Graz in the quarter-finals and Rapid Vienna in the semi-finals 2-1, SV Ried won the ÖFB Cup final at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion with 2-0 against Austria Lustenau .

2011/12 season

In addition to the departures of Martin Stocklasa (St. Gallen) and Thomas Schrammel (Rapid), the SVR also had to cope with the sudden end of the career of team captain Oliver Glasner . In the league game at Rapid Vienna, he sustained a head injury after a collision with Mario Sonnleitner , the severity of which was initially not recognized. Three days later, a few hours before the European Cup second leg in Copenhagen, a blood clot was diagnosed in the brain, which had to be removed acutely. In the last phase of the transfer time Florian Mader (FK Austria Wien) and Daniel Royer (Hannover 96) surprisingly left the club. The departures of these top performers could, however, be compensated for by the further development of new leading players such as Anel Hadžić or Thomas Reifeltshammer .

By winning the cup, the club was qualified for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League . Opponent was Brøndby IF from the Copenhagen suburb Brøndby . After a 2-0 home win in the first leg, the Rieder fought in Copenhagen after a 4-0 deficit and a 2: 4 and thus secured their place in the playoff round of the Europa League. There Ried was eliminated from PSV Eindhoven after a 0-0 win at home with a 5-0 win in the second leg (half-time score 0-0).

In the league, SV Ried started weakly with only two points from the first four games against the “big four” of the league and was even briefly in last place in the table. Only one of the following 14 games was lost, however, after the first half of the season the SVR won the title of autumn champions of the tipp3 Bundesliga for the second time in a row , two points ahead of the major Viennese clubs Rapid Wien and FK Austria Wien . Spring 2012, on the other hand, was less positive, starting with four defeats in a row and a goal difference of 1: 8. With only three wins in the other games, the season ended in 6th place in the table. In spring, the employment relationship with coach Paul Gludovatz was terminated by mutual agreement after he had signed a contract with SK Sturm Graz for the following season. His successor was interim assistant trainer Gerhard Schweitzer.

A significantly better final result could be achieved again in the cup. After Rapid Vienna was beaten away in the round of 16 (a success that has never been achieved in the championship) and Austria Vienna at home in the semi-finals, the SVR moved into the finals in the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna for the second time in a row . In the third cup final in the club's history (after 1998 and 2011), the team went as a loser after a 3-0 defeat against FC Red Bull Salzburg. Since Salzburg also won the championship, Ried played again in the qualification for the Europa League in the 2012/13 season .

2012/13 season

The Styrian Heinz Fuchsbichler was signed for the season . In the second qualifying round of the Europa League they beat the Belarusian team FK Schachzjor Salihorsk with 1: 1 thanks to the away goals rule. However, they failed in the third round to KP Legia Warsaw (first leg in Ried: 2: 1; second leg 1: 3).

During a mixed autumn championship, the employment relationship with trainer Heinz Fuchsbichler was terminated. He was succeeded by long-time SV Ried player Michael Angerschmid . The season ended in the Bundesliga in 6th place.

In the cup they reached the semi-finals, where they failed at FK Austria Wien .

Further course

In the 2013/14 season, SV Ried also experienced a season of ups and downs, at the end of which they reached sixth place. This prompted the club's management not to renew the contract of coach Michael Angerschmid. In the summer of 2014, long-time SV Ried player Oliver Glasner became head coach. Shortly before the last league game of the 2014/15 season (35th matchday: SV Ried on 6th place in the table) it was announced that Glasner would move to Lask Linz in the following season . The new coach of SV Ried for the 2015/16 season was Helgi Kolviðsson , who came from relegated SC Wiener Neustadt and signed a two-year contract with SVR. After five games without a win in the 2015/16 season, he was given leave of absence on August 16, 2015. Paul Gludovatz was introduced as the new trainer . Christian Benbennek looked after the team from 2016 to 2017. From 2017 to April 2018 Lassaad Chabbi was the team's coach. On April 2, 2018, he was on leave and replaced on an interim basis by Franz Schiemer .

After relegation to the second division in 2017, the team fell far short of the self-declared season goal of promotion or championship title in the 2017/18 season. The team ended the season in a disappointing 4th place. It was announced in advance that the managing director would probably hand over the club in the event of non-promotion. However, this did not happen. On June 6, 2018, Thomas Weissenböck was confirmed as a trainer at a board meeting.

Youth work

Ried is home to the BNZ Ried (Upper Austria West Football Academy), which looks after the youth groups from U15 (under 15 years) to U18 and the amateur team (Upper Austria League). The special thing about this football academy is that the young players also get a school education. For this purpose, it cooperates with various schools in the city of Ried im Innkreis, in particular with the Sport-HAK (commercial academy) Ried.
