society

Salihi began his professional career in 2002 with the Albanian club KS Vllaznia Shkodra , where he played until 2004. In 2004 the Albanian striker moved to the Greek club Panionios Athens in 2004 , but returned to his home country after just one year. He played from the 2005/06 season at the Albanian club SK Tirana by storm and was top scorer in the Albanian league with 29 goals in the same season. Tirana won the Albanian Club Cup this season. In winter 2006/07 he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga for SV Ried , who hoped for more goals with him. Salihi played his first Bundesliga game for Ried on February 24, 2007 against SK Sturm Graz . He was substituted on in the 68th minute for Emin Sulimani . The Albanian scored his first Bundesliga goal on March 3, 2007 against SV Mattersburg . In this game he scored a brace. Ried won 2-1. On August 31, 2009 he moved to league rivals SK Rapid Vienna , where he scored his first goal in his first game.

Although he was not always seeded under coach Peter Pacult , he scored 26 competitive goals for the Austrian record champions in the 2010/11 season. Salihi's contract with SK Rapid expired in June 2012 and so the Albanian attracted the interest of numerous international clubs such as Maccabi Haifa in the summer of 2011.

On February 2, 2012 Salihi moved to DC United in the North American Major League Soccer . After only one year in the USA, he signed with the Chinese club Jiangsu Sainty . For the 2014 winter transfer period, the clubless Salihi moved to the Israeli club Hapoel Akko , and one year later to Hapoel Haifa for one season . In the summer of 2015, again without a club, he agreed with the Albanian champions KF Skënderbeu Korça to help out there for the Champions League games, where he scored two goals in the first game. He could have left the club at any time. In the 2015/16 season he was Albanian champion with Korça and top scorer of the league with 27 goals. In the 2016/17 season it was only third in the league's top scorer list with 15 goals, and Skënderbeu also only came in third.

For the 2017/18 season he returned to Austria, where he joined the second division club SC Wiener Neustadt . He ended his active career there on March 31, 2019.

National team

In the Albanian national team , he has made 50 appearances and eleven goals since 2006. His last appearance for the national team was in March 2015.

As a trainer

In May 2019 he became Sargon Duran's assistant coach at SC Wiener Neustadt , where he was also under contract as a player at that time. At the same time, he has also been in charge of Albania's senior national team as an assistant coach under Edoardo Reja since summer 2019 .
