Pichlmann began his career as a football player in 1989 in the youth of SC Lanzendorf and came to ASK Vösendorf in 1991 . From there he came to the cooperation club SK Rapid Wien for the first time in 1993 and played alternately for both clubs during this time. Then he was briefly active with the professionals of SK Rapid Vienna , from which he moved to First Vienna FC . After a year on the Hohe Warte, he moved to DSV Leoben in Upper Styria , where he formed the “baby tower” with Matthias Dollinger . After a relatively successful year in Leoben, Pichlmann switched to FC Superfund , where he was first dismissed in May 2005 due to indiscipline, but then put back under contract. Thomas Pichlmann scored 18 Bundesliga goals in the three years at FC Superfund. On June 12, 2006, Pichlmann moved to FK Austria Wien , where he was injured in the UEFA Cup second leg against Legia Warsaw and was out for around three months.

From January 2008 to August 2010 Pichlmann played for the Italian second division club US Grosseto . From August 31, 2010 Pichlmann played for the former Italian champions Hellas Verona in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione , with which he signed a three-year contract. This contract was extended on October 26, 2011 for a further year until summer 2014. On July 15, 2012, he switched to Spezia Calcio on loan for a year .

On July 16, 2013, Pichlmann terminated his one-year contract with the Italians by mutual agreement and returned to his homeland. He signed a two-year contract with SC Wiener Neustadt . In the following year, however, it went back to Italy, again to US Grosseto. After only one year he left the Tuscan club and returned to FC Wacker Innsbruck in the Austrian first division for the 2015/16 season.

In April 2017, his contract with the Innsbruck team was terminated. For the 2017/18 season he moved to the regional division SC Schwaz .
