Roland Linz (born August 9, 1981 in Leoben ) is a former Austrian football player .

Career

Roland Linz began his career as a young player at DSV Leoben . In 1997, at the age of 15, the striker moved to Germany for two years for the youth team of TSV 1860 Munich . He then returned to his hometown club in Leoben, where he was the best goalscorer in his club in the second-rate first division at the age of 19 . After 21 goals in the 2000/01 season, the Styrian signed with FK Austria Wien in the Bundesliga .

Linz established itself quickly, scored eight goals in its first year in the Bundesliga and even played for the national team , for which he made his debut on March 27, 2002 against Slovakia in Graz in a 2-0 win. In the 2002/03 season , Linz was also able to win the championship and the ÖFB Cup with the violets , but Christoph Daum used it less and less and from the sixth round onwards it was no longer used over the full distance.

Linz was awarded to VfB Admira Wacker Mödling in the 2003/04 season , with 15 goals he was the Mödlingers' non-relegation guarantee and was then obliged by OGC Nice . At the French club he lost his regular place during the autumn season and returned to Austria in winter 2005, where he worked for SK Sturm Graz for the rest of the season and scored four goals.

In the 2005/06 season Linz played again as a striker for Wiener Austria, was Austria's top scorer and won the championship title and ÖFB Cup with the club. At the same time he succeeded through a strong performance, crowned by two goals, against Poland in Chorzów in September 2005 as a regular in the storm of the national team. After this successful season, the striker moved to Boavista Porto in the first Portuguese league, where he scored ten goals in his first season.

In August 2007, the league moved to Sporting Braga , where Linz quickly gained a foothold. In the league he got eleven goals in the first year of the game and five more in the main round of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup , in which he reached the round of 32 with his team. After a bitter public criticism from ÖFB President Friedrich Stickler in September 2007, the striker was no longer considered for the national team for almost half a year. In 2008 he took part in the European Championship with the Austrian national team.

On January 30, 2009 he loaned to the Swiss Grasshopper Club Zurich until the end of the 2008/09 season, then to Gaziantepspor in Turkey . The contract was terminated by mutual agreement in January 2010. On February 1, 2010, Linz signed a six-month contract with an option for three more years with FK Austria Wien. This option was drawn by the club. Thus Linz was tied to the association until June 30, 2013. At the end of the 2010/11 season Linz was again top scorer in the top Austrian division with 21 goals. After he was rarely used at FK in 2012, the contract was terminated prematurely and he moved to the Thai club Muangthong United on January 10, 2013 , where he signed a contract for two years plus an option for another year. In January 2014 Linz moved back to the Portuguese league at Belenenses Lisbon , where the contract ended on June 30, 2014. He has been without a club since then.
