Young Star of the Year

The Young Star of the Year is a trophy awarded to the best U-21 player of the past season in Austria. It was brought into being analogous to the reform of the second highest Austrian league for the 2000/01 season.

The first winner was Roland Linz . The current title holder is Kevin Fend from SV Grödig .

The election takes place after the end of each second division season by a jury composed of the league's patron Herbert Prohaska , the current U-21 national team coach of Austria * and the coaches of the first division.

In addition to the main award for Young Star of the Year, the

  • Young Star Coach of the Year (calculated from the minutes played U-21 players)000
  • Benjamin of the year and that (calculated from the nominations for the youngest player of the round)000
  • Young Star Team year honored. (Will be chosen by the same jury as the Young Star of the Year)0

In addition, the Young Star of the Month is awarded during the season and Benjamin is presented to the group.

Worth knowing about the honors

  • Seven of the eleven award winners made it into the Austrian national football team . (Linz, Pichlmann, Lasnik, Saurer, Stankovic, Okotie, Dibon)
  • The DSV Leoben has the most winners with 4 awards.
  • In the first year of the award, the second and third places were also announced by Michael Mörz ( SV Mattersburg ) (2) and Joachim Parapatits ( DSV Leoben ) (3) .
  • In the 2004/05 season, Besian Idrizaj (LASK Linz), a not entirely unknown, was voted "Benjamin of the Year". In the same year he also made it into the "Young Star Team of the Year".
  • Thomas Janeschitz is the record holder with 2 wins in the category "Young Star Coach". His club, FK Austria Wien Amateure, is the record team in this category with a total of 3 winners (from 2006 to 2008) .
  • Florian Klein (Lask Linz) made it to a nomination for the "Young Star Team of the Year" every year during his entire second division (2004–2007) , but was never voted "Young Star of the Year". With 3 nominations, he is the record holder in this category.
  • He is followed by Michael Madl (FK Austria Wien Amateure) (2005–2007) , Niklas Hoheneder (LASK Linz) (2005–2007) and Ramazan Özcan ( Red Bull Juniors ) (2004–2006) , each with two nominations.
  • Even Paul Scharner ( SC Untersiebenbrunn ) made it to his Leihjahr in the second division into "Young Star Team of the Year". (2001/2002)
