Michael Madl (born March 21, 1988 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

In 2002 Madl made the leap from LAZ (performance training center) Judenburg to the Frank Stronach Academy in Hollabrunn, which was founded in 2000 . In 2004, when he was 16, he trained with the combat team. He played in the amateur team of FK Austria Wien , which played for the top places in the first division . There he quickly established a regular position. The breakthrough in the team did not succeed, but on December 13, 2006 he made his debut in the UEFA Cup against Espanyol Barcelona and came in the course of the championship on some appearances in the Bundesliga . A few days after his UEFA Cup debut, Madl's contract was extended to summer 2010.

In 2007, Austria Vienna and FC Wacker Innsbruck agreed on a one-year loan contract to give him more match practice. In the summer of 2008 after the relegation of FC Wacker Innsbruck Madl returned to Vienna and was a regular player at the beginning of the season before injuring himself three times ( strain , torn ligament in the tarsus and knee ).

After two seasons he moved to SC Wiener Neustadt in the summer of 2010 , for which he spent the following two seasons. In summer 2012 Madl moved to SK Sturm Graz on a free transfer .

In January 2016 he was awarded to the second division FC Fulham in England until the end of the season . In May 2016 he got a contract until summer 2018. By the end of 2017, FK Austria Wien was working on Madl's return to Austria. After the Fulham coach Slaviša Jokanović had also told him not to plan any further with him, and Madl was temporarily used in the club's U-21 team, Madl herself also showed interest in returning to Austria. In January 2018 he finally returned to Austria, where he received a contract that ran until June 2021.

National team

His greatest success so far was fourth place with the Austrian U-20 national team at the Junior World Cup in Canada . There, the strong duo formed a duo in central defense with the strong header Sebastian Prödl . When the Austrian youngsters were eliminated in the semifinals against the Czech Republic, Madl was suspended due to his third yellow card.

In November 2016 he was called up for the first time by team boss Marcel Koller in the senior national team . In the friendly against Slovakia he made his debut in the starting line-up and played for the full 90 minutes.
