Alexander Grünwald (born May 1, 1989 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) is an Austrian football player . The midfielder has been under contract with FK Austria Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga since 2011 .

Career

youth

Grünwald began his active career as a football player on his sixth birthday, the national holiday in 1995, when he was accepted by the FC Kärnten youth team . There he went through various youth league classes before moving to the youth department of FK Austria Wien in the federal capital in June 2003 . With the Viennese he was initially used in the youth and at the end of his youth he played for the U-19 team with games in the U-19 youth league sponsored by Toto . He is also a graduate of the Frank Stronach Academy (FSA) based in Hollabrunn in Lower Austria . During the winter break of the 2006/07 season , Grünwald made the jump from the U-19 academy team to the second professional team of Wiener Austria , which at that time was playing in the second-class Austrian first division .

Club career

In the first half of the year he already made five league appearances and two goals for FK Austria Wien Amas. He made his professional debut on April 13, 2007 in a 1-1 draw in the away game against FC Admira Wacker Mödling , when he came on in the 81st minute for Tomas Šimkovič , with whom he was later to play at SC Magna . Grünwald didn't have to wait long for his first goal as a professional player, because just a month after his professional debut, he scored the 1-0 lead in a 1-1 away draw against his former youth club, FC Kärnten, in the eleventh minute of the game . The template for the hit was made by Christian Schragner .

In the 2007/08 season Grünwald made his Bundesliga debut when he was substituted on for Yüksel Sariyar in the 89th minute of the first game of the season in a 2-2 away draw against SK Sturm Graz on July 11, 2007 . In 2007/08 he just failed to assert himself as a regular for the Austria Amateurs, but was still a top performer in the team with four goals and three assists in 19 championship games. After he was still in action on November 30, 2007 in the 2-1 home win over SC Austria Lustenau and even contributed the goal to the 1-1 equalizer, he injured his adductors shortly afterwards in early December 2007 . When he was fit again soon afterwards, he had to undergo cruciate ligament surgery at the beginning of January 2008 and was thus absent for several months.

In the summer of 2008, the midfielder moved to SC Magna Wiener Neustadt in the first division , although he was not yet allowed to participate in the game due to his operation . There he made his team debut on August 22, 2008 after the operation had healed. What followed were mostly short assignments. Only in his last game in the 2008/09 season did the young midfielder play for the full length of the game. So he brought it to the Wiener Neustädtern on one hit and one template in a total of 13 league games. At the end of the season, the team was able to celebrate the championship title of the first division with seven points behind their pursuers Wacker Innsbruck .

In between, Grünwald was briefly awarded to the cooperative club SV Wienerberg , whose first combat team was represented in the third-class Regionalliga Ost , one of three parallel relays. He scored three goals in five missions. During this time, Grünwald was not only able to get involved in the league, because the then 19-year-old also took part in the ÖFB Cup of the 2008/09 season and thus made short appearances in three games for SC Magna.

During the 2009/10 season , Grünwald became more and more a regular player in the Bundesliga team of SC Magna Wiener Neustadt. Furthermore, Grünwald was in action in the 2009/10 ÖFB Cup , and on September 18, 2009, together with his teammate Mensur Kurtisi, he was one of the main people responsible for making it into the round of 16 of the competition . After the home team led 2-0 in the game against FC Pasching , the Wr. Neustädter with goals in the 88th (Kurtisi) and 93rd minute (Grünwald) still played the game and then prevailed against the Upper Austrians in the subsequent penalty shoot-out after extra time . In the summer of 2011, Grünwald moved to FK Austria Wien . In the 2012/13 season he was champion with the Vienna Austria.

International

Grünwald gained his first international experience in 2006 when he was part of the Austrian U-18 team for the first time. At the beginning of September 2006 he played a game against colleagues from Switzerland . From 2007 the committed midfielder was in the squad of the U-19 team in his home country and made a total of five missions for them, in which, however, he failed to score. After Grünwald had previously played for the U-19 team, he was not selected by the U-19 national coach Hermann Stadler into the Austrian squad for the 2007 European home championship in Upper Austria, but was available as a field player on call. Shortly before the U-20 international match against the German U-20 men on September 3, 2008, Grünwald was elected to Austria's U-20 squad for the first time.

However, the midfielder had to wait almost a year for his first U-20 team appearance. On August 12, 2009 he made his debut in a 5-1 home defeat against the Swiss U-20s, when he was on the field from the start and played through the full match duration. Only shortly afterwards he was in the 1-1 away draw, also against Switzerland, again on the field for the entire duration of the game. In March 2009 Grünwald was one of many players who was appointed to the squad of the Austrian U-21 national team for the first time in their career .

The Carinthian native made his debut on October 10, 2009 in a qualifying game for the U-21 European Championship 2011 against the U-21 from Azerbaijan , when he came on for his SC-Magna teammate Guido Burgstaller at half-time. After Azerbaijan had led 1-0 for a long time, Austria won the game with goals in the 90th and 93rd minutes. Grünwald was the goal scorer to make it 2-1 in the 93rd minute. After being used for 62 minutes on his second outing, he performed brilliantly on his third U-21 team appearance. In another game against Azerbaijan, the young midfielder initiated all three goals from Atdhe Nuhiu ; once each with a free kick, a pass and a cross. In the 4-0 win, he was in action for the entire duration of the game.
