The Austrian football championship was held for the 101st time in 2012/13 . The top division is the Austrian Bundesliga , which was held for the 39th time this season and was contested by ten teams. In four rounds, these determined the Austrian football champion and the representatives of Austria in the international competitions of the 2013/14 season. Vienna Austria secured the championship title for the 24th time ahead of Red Bull Salzburg and Rapid Vienna .
The second highest division is the First League , which was held for the 38th time in 2012/13 and won by SV Grödig for the first time .
Licensing process
On April 30, 2012, the Bundesliga awarded the licenses for the 2012/13 championship. With the exception of the first division LASK Linz and the regional division Villacher SV , all clubs have been granted licenses. The Bundesliga clubs Admira Wacker Mödling , Austria Wien and Wacker Innsbruck as well as the first division clubs SKN St. Pölten , Vienna and FC Lustenau received the license under financial conditions.
While the Villachers waived a complaint to the protest committee of the Bundesliga due to the lack of sporting prospects for promotion, the LASK submitted one. On May 14, the protest committee announced that the LASK's protest had been rejected because it had not been properly introduced. After the Constantly Neutral Arbitration Court, as the last instance, rejected the Linz protest, LASK left professional football and was relegated to the Middle Regional League. Thus, the FC Lustenau remained without relegation in the first division, while the TSV Hartberg took the vacated relegation place and after victories over the GAK could also stay in the first division.
First performance level - Bundesliga
Bundesliga clubs 2012/13 |
The Bundesliga, the top division of Austrian football, supported by the sports betting provider tipp3 as the main sponsor, was staged for the 39th time in the 2012/13 season. They determined the 101st Austrian soccer champion. The sub-sponsor was the mobile operator T-Mobile Austria , which is why the official league name was tipp3-Bundesliga powered by T-Mobile . The joint team of the two Carinthian cooperation clubs Wolfsberger AC and SK St. Andrä made it into Austria's top division for the first time with the championship title in the first division in 2011/12, whereby the cooperation was broken after the championship season and the team in the Bundesliga only as Wolfsberger AC occurs. The Carinthians replaced the relegated Kapfenberger SV .
Thus presented Carinthia first time since the descent of Austria Kärnten 2010 again a national league. Only Vorarlberg was not represented in the 2012/13 Bundesliga season, Vienna and Lower Austria each provided two clubs.
The TV provider sky Deutschland AG had the rights to show all Bundesliga games in full length that were broadcast on pay TV on the sky sport austria channel. The broadcaster not only showed all the games in conference call, but also individually. In addition, ORF had the rights to broadcast the “top game of the round” as a single game - mostly on Sundays, and on Wednesdays for weekday rounds. This regulation did not apply in the last two rounds, in which all games had to be played at the same time. In addition, the ORF was allowed to show a 45-minute summary of the remaining four games per round.
mode
In the 2012/13 season, as in previous years, ten clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 rounds. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team.
Due to the consistently good performances of the Austrian clubs in the European Cup, Austria moved up to 15th place in the UEFA five-year ranking in the 2011/12 season . Thus, five starting places for the Champions League and the Europa League were played out via the Bundesliga and the Cup in the 2012/13 season. The Bundesliga played for four international starting places: champions and runners-up are eligible to participate in the qualification for the UEFA Champions League and will enter the third qualifying round; the third and fourth placed clubs play in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League . While the fourth-placed player starts in the second qualifying round, the third-placed player only starts in qualifying round 3, the cup winner takes part in the play-off for the Europa League.
The last placed in the Bundesliga had to relegate to the second-rate first division.
Season course
The 2012/13 Bundesliga was opened on July 21, 2012 with the duel between the last two champions, Sturm Graz and Red Bull Salzburg . The defending champion from Salzburg prevailed 2-0 in the Graz UPC Arena . The first table leader of the new season was runner-up Rapid Vienna , who beat Wacker Innsbruck 4-0 at home. The Bundesliga premiere of the WAC literally fell through. Heavy rain made the course in Carinthia unplayable and the duel with Vienna Austria had to be postponed by four days. The Wolfsberger finally went with a narrow 0: 1 as a loser from the square. In the second round, the Carinthians celebrated their first Bundesliga victory with a 2-0 away win at Ried .
Vienna Austria won the autumn championship with 42 points, five points ahead of Salzburg and seven points ahead of Rapid. Austria was crowned the winter king on the penultimate match day of 2012, and did not give up first place in spring either. The lead over the only competitor, Red Bull Salzburg, was never less than six points in the spring until the last matchday. With a 4-0 win over Mattersburg , Austria won the 24th championship title in the 35th and penultimate round. She exceeded Sturm Graz's mark from the 1997/98 season and set a new record with 82 points. The defending champion Red Bull Salzburg, who had been dethroned, was runner-up, five points behind. He continued his impressive run and has always been in the top two since Red Bull joined the team.
The battle for the Europa League tickets was also exciting. While Rapid secured third place with a 2-0 win at Admira one round before the end , three teams fought for 4th place in the table and thus for the last international one in the last round with Sturm Graz, WAC and Ried Launch site. The third Europa League starting place went to the regional league and cup winner FC Pasching .
The remaining four teams - Mattersburg, Wiener Neustadt , Wacker Innsbruck and Admira - fought one of the closest relegation battles in Bundesliga history. Before the 36th and final round, all four could finish the season with the red lantern and relegate, but all four also had the opportunity to stay up on their own.
The last game day
And so the last game day was highly dramatic. Runner-up Red Bull Salzburg defeated champions Austria Wien 3-0 in the top game and set a new club-internal point record. Wiener Austria missed being the first team in Bundesliga history to end a season without an away defeat. The game between Rapid and Ried also ended 3-0, with the Upper Austrians giving away the last chance to participate in the Europa League qualification.
This last international starting position seemed to have been allocated to the WAC 20 minutes before the final whistle. The Carinthians were leading 2-0 against Wacker Innsbruck at this point, while Sturm Graz were 3-0 down at home against Wiener Neustadt. With this result, the game in Graz ended, with which SC Wiener Neustadt had managed to stay in the league. Thus, in the game between Mattersburg and Admira, a draw would have been enough for both teams to stay in the league. The game went accordingly; but in the 72nd minute of play Daniel Segovia made it 1-0 for Admira. Wacker Innsbruck now had to win the game against the WAC. In fact, with a double from Julius Perstaller and another goal from Christian Schilling , the Tyroleans were able to turn the game around in just six minutes. As a result, Mattersburg slipped to the bottom of the table and needed at least one more goal against Admira, which however no longer succeeded. Since Wolfsberg could no longer equalize the game against Innsbruck, the red lantern stayed with Mattersburg - seventh before the last round. After ten years in the Bundesliga, the Burgenland relegated back to the first division . The last European Cup starting place went to SK Sturm despite the 3-0 home defeat and five defeats in the last six games.

Second performance level - First League
Clubs of the first division 2012/13 |
The first league is the second highest division in Austrian professional football, it was played for the 38th time in the 2012/13 season. The Bundesliga relegated Kapfenberger SV as well as the Regionalliga-Ost-Meister and relegation winner SV Horn joined the league . The TSV Hartberg remained as the second relegation winner in the first division.
In the 2012/13 season Vorarlberg provided three clubs, Lower Austria and Styria each provided two clubs, Vienna, Upper Austria and Salzburg each one. Burgenland, Carinthia and Tyrol were not represented in the second highest division.
As in the Bundesliga, the TV rights belonged to the broadcaster sky Deutschland AG , which was allowed to show all games in full. The broadcast took place on the pay-TV channel sky sport austria and as part of a conference call for four games with the game starting at 6:30 p.m. The "top game of the round" was broadcast as a single game on Friday at 8:30 pm. The ORF also had the right to live the top game of the round and to show full length. This was done via the ORF Sport Plus channel . Exception: the last two rounds, in which all games must be played at the same time.
mode
In the 2012/13 season, as in the previous year, ten clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 rounds. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team.
The league champion rose to the Bundesliga . The last placed should have relegated to the regional league corresponding to his region . Due to the forced relegation of FC Lustenau, the bottom of the table had to play two relegation games against the champions of the Regionalliga Ost. Relegated Lustenau was replaced by the winner of the two qualifying games between the champions of the regional leagues center and west.
Season course
The 2012/13 Erste Liga started on July 20, 2012 with a real scoring. There were 26 goals in the five first round matches, an average of 5.2 per game. The first league leader of the new season was Austria Lustenau , who defeated Bundesliga relegated Kapfenberg 5-0 at home. The SV Horn lost his first-league debut in their own stadium with 3: 4 against the previous year's second SCR Altach . SKN St. Pölten won the first competitive game in the new Lower Austria Arena 5-2 against Vienna .
On March 13, the Bundesliga announced that FC Lustenau had to be relegated from the first division due to multiple violations of the licensing process.
The champions were SV Grödig , which in the spring was able to intercept Lustenauer Austria , which was still clearly leading at the winter break , and finally ended the season ten points ahead of Altach . For the first time in the club's history, Salzburg will be promoted to the top division.
Due to the forced relegation of FC Lustenau, Blau-Weiß Linz did not have to relegate directly to the regional league as the last of this year's season, but was allowed to play in the relegation against SC-ESV Parndorf to keep up.

Third level - regional leagues
mode
The regional leagues east, west and middle form the third level in Austrian football. The Regionalliga Ost is formed by the clubs of the Vienna , Lower Austria and Burgenland Football Associations. The Regionalliga Mitte is made up of clubs from the Upper Austrian , Carinthian and Styrian football associations. The Regionalliga West is made up of clubs from the Salzburg , Tyrol and Vorarlberg football associations.
In each of these three leagues, one relegation place for the first division is played; A license from Senate 5 of the Bundesliga is a prerequisite for any promotion. Second teams are not allowed to be promoted. A changing mode of the relegation games was agreed for the regional league teams. Accordingly, this season the Regionalliga Ost has to compete against the ninth place in the First League and the Regionalliga Mitte against the Regionalliga West.
The number of relegated teams is basically three per regional league. However, this can change if, on the one hand, the master does not advance to the first division or if the relegation ranks are influenced by the classification of the relegated teams. In any case, the last two places have to leave the league.

Relegation
Relegation to the first division
Due to the forced relegation of FC Lustenau 07 , the tenth place in the first division, FC Blau-Weiß Linz , does not have to relegate directly to the regional league, but instead plays in the relegation against the champions of the regional league east, SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 . In the second relegation duel, the champions of the Regionalliga Mitte, LASK Linz , will meet the champions of the Regionalliga West, FC Liefering .
The first leg took place on June 3, 2013 in the Heidebodenstadion in Parndorf and in the Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim . The second legs were played in the Linz stadium . The game between LASK and Liefering was played on June 6th, that between Blau-Weiß and Parndorf on June 7th, 2013. The two Linz clubs lost in all games and thus remain in the Middle Regional League or are promoted to this off. For the first time since 1950, the Upper Austrian capital will not have a team in professional football in the coming season .
