Ligue 1 2011/12

The Ligue 1 2012/13 was the 75th season of the highest French league for football . It began on August 11, 2012 and ended on May 26, 2013. The defending champion was HSC Montpellier .

Teams

The season was contested by 20 teams; among the 17 best of the 2011/12 season were the three promoted Ligue 2 2011/12 .

Last season's three relegated teams, SM Caen , FCO Dijon and AJ Auxerre , were no longer there . The first relegation of Auxerre from the top French division ended a 32-year membership of the club in Division 1 / Ligue 1. Caen and Dijon returned to Ligue 2 after two and one year respectively.

Newcomers from Ligue 2 were SC Bastia , Stade Reims and ES Troyes AC . Of the three promoted Reims finished the longest series without first division membership; the club was back in the top French division for the first time since the 1978/79 season . Bastia returned to the first division after a seven-year absence and two consecutive promotions. ESTAC finally rose again after five seasons in the second and third division, but could not hold the class beyond this season.

(a)The stadiums in Marseille and Saint-Étienne currently have reduced spectator capacity due to renovation work in view of the 2016 European Championship .
(b)The league association LFP closed the stadium in Bastia for three point games at the end of the first half of the season after a hail of bullets hit the lawn and racist slogans against players in the game against Lille. Bastia also has to pay a fine and gets two points deducted in case of repetition; the SCB then moved to Gueugnon ( Stade Jean Laville ) on the 19th and 21st matchday, and to Auxerre ( Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps ) on the 23rd matchday .
After riots broke out on the sidelines of the Corsica derby Bastia against Ajaccio on March 2, 2013, the LFP determined for the coming season that both matches between these two teams should be played in a neutral place and in camera.

Closing table

The unofficial autumn championship was secured by the high favorite Paris, but only thanks to the better goal difference compared to the teams from Lyon and Marseille with equal points. In the last three places Sochaux went into the second half of the season, Troyes and Nancy were the only newcomers.
After the end of the 36th match day, Paris took first place and Marseille the runner-up could not be taken mathematically, while the bottom Brest could no longer achieve a non-relegation place. Before the last day of the match, Nancy was also relegated to sport; the newcomer from Troyes had to accompany these two.
