Division 1 1985/86

The Division 1 1986/87 was the 49th staging of the professional French football league. The Girondins Bordeaux became champions for the fourth time since 1950 and for the third time in the last four years .

The first matchday was August 5, 1986, the last matchday was June 5, 1987. This time there was a particularly long winter break from December 22nd to February 26th.

The clubs that had finished the previous season no worse than 17th were eligible to participate, as well as two direct promoters from the second division and the winner of the relegation round . Thus, the following teams played for the championship title this season:

Season course

The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement.

After the performance of the French national team at the World Cup finals , which was again presentable , the interest of TV stations and sponsors in club football continued to grow. For example, the Matra group committed themselves to Racing Paris and the entrepreneur Bernard Tapie near Marseille with considerable sums, and these clubs bet more on the purchase of "ready players" than on the promotion of young talent; Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain also invested heavily in the transfer market before the start of the season, which meant that, for example, Halilhodžić from Nantes, Bocandé from Metz and Rocheteau were three expensive strikers with a total of 60 goals in the previous season for the position of the striker in PSG's squad . These four teams were considered favorites for the championship title. Also before the start of the season, triggered by the change of the "eternal Girondins" Alain Giresse to Marseille, a public long-term dispute developed between the two autocratic club presidents Tapie and Bez , who a few years later both were to be sentenced to prison terms due to their financial conduct .

In terms of sport, the two capital city clubs fell behind in the first half of the season, while Marseille (autumn champions) and Bordeaux established themselves at the top of the table without either of them being able to break away significantly. During the winter break, the Girondins reinforced themselves with a very inexpensive, young striker from Savoy , who until then had mostly played for modest Swiss clubs ( Étoile Carouge , AC Bellinzona ), and this Philippe Fargeon turned out to be a real stroke of luck - he achieved 18 point games 15 hits. In mid-April, Bordeaux defeated their direct opponents from Marseille 3-0, although the Girondins only played ten after the 20th minute of the game, because defender Rohr had repeatedly been not squeamish in choosing his means against the "renegade" Giresse. Also because Olympique then conceded five more defeats, the Girondins were already established as champions after the 35th match day. At the beginning of June, the two opponents met again in the cup final; Bordeaux won again, becoming the ninth French team since 1933 to additionally secure the doublé . Nevertheless, this season was generally seen as low in hits and events. It brought a negative league record in terms of the total number of goals scored - the lowest point was the eighth matchday with just nine goals in ten league games - and apart from the first edition of the championship , when the teams played only half as many games as this time Never has an attacker become Division 1's top scorer with only 18 goals this season . In addition, a third of all encounters (125) ended in a draw.

At the lower end of the table, Rennes found himself in a hopeless position early on, while the fight against the second relegation place and participation in the relegation round for the clubs involved received a certain tension until the end. In the end it caught Nancy and a little later also Sochaux, who gambled away the relegation against second division AS Cannes in the Barrages . Direct climbers for the following season were Chamois Niort and Montpellier La Paillade SC .
