Le Havre Athletic Club Football Association ( Le Havre AC or Le HAC for short ) is one of the oldest French football clubs from the port city of Le Havre in the Seine-Maritime department .
The club colors have been light and dark blue since 1891, which were intended as an homage to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge in the football and rugby motherland of England, from which most of the active players of the HAC came until 1897. The league team played at the Stade Jules Deschaseaux until the summer of 2012 , which has a capacity of 16,340 seats and in 1970 replaced the Stade de la Cavée Verte , which was built in 1914 . Since the 2012/13 season, Le HAC has been based in the newly built Stade Océane with 25,178 seats.
France's oldest football club?
Whether the HAC - as often read - is actually the oldest club in the country is disputed. Although the club was founded in 1872, there are no unequivocal sources about this event and the association football division (FA) was not established until 1892 (according to other sources, 1894 , when the first HAC game was played with a round ball); thus Standard AC Paris could also be entitled to the title of the oldest French football club. Nevertheless, Le Havre is definitely an absolute veteran in football on the other side of the Rhine, even if he should have played the rugby version of the game before 1892 .
