Association Football
The English term Association Football ( German literally association football or association football ) stands for the football game according to the rules of the English Football Association (FA), the first football association in the world. The set of rules for this was created in 1863. Association Football therefore means what is simply understood by football in German-speaking countries .
The term is mainly used when football has to be differentiated from American football , Australian football , Canadian football , Gaelic football or rugby football . In the 19th century, most continental European football clubs initially played rugby.
The term used in English soccer is derived as a short form of As soc iation , and is used in many English-speaking countries. However, the distribution is different. While football is more common today in most English-speaking European countries , soccer is more widespread in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the British Commonwealth .
The French form of the term Association Football is Football Association ; This stands behind the abbreviation of the world football association FIFA ( French: Fédération Internationale de Football Association, "International Association of Association Football ") and in the description of its purpose in the Zurich Commercial Register .
