La Berrichonne de Châteauroux is a French football club from the city of Châteauroux in the Indre department in central France .

history

It was founded in 1883 under its current name; the football department was not added until 1914. The club name is derived from the historical Berry province , whose inhabitants are called Berrichons . The club colors are blue and red; the league team plays at the Stade Gaston Petit , which has a capacity of 17,072.

The team had their greatest success so far in 2004 when they reached the French Cup final. There Châteauroux failed to Paris Saint-Germain , but was able to qualify for the UEFA Cup, where they were defeated in the first round against Club Bruges .

The club's president is Patrick Le Seyec; the first team had coached Didier Tholot since June 2010 , who was released early in October 2013 and replaced by Jean-Louis Garcia on the same day . (As of October 2013)

League affiliation

First class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ), the club only played in the 1997/98 season. Since then, always in second class, Châteauroux was relegated from Ligue 2 at the end of the 2013/14 season , but was then allowed to stay in this league due to the refusal of license for Luzenac AP .
