Grenoble Foot 38 is a French football club from Grenoble , the capital of the Isère department in eastern France (ordinal number: 38), at the foot of the Savoy Alps in the Dauphiné region.

history

It was founded in 1917 as a division of the rugby club Football Club de Grenoble . The club carried this name until 1977, when it was first called FC AS de Grenoble (until 1984), followed by FC de Grenoble Dauphiné (until 1990). Subsequently, two bankruptcies (1990, 1997) and several mergers resulted in a flood of name changes (5 new names within 7 years): Football Club de Grenoble Isère , Football Club de Grenoble Jojo Isère , Olympique Grenoble Isère , Sporting Club de Grenoble and finally the current name since 1997.

In 2004, the Japanese company Index Holdings acquired 99.42% of the club.

The club color is blue; the league team plays in the Stade des Alpes , which has a capacity of 20,000 seats and replaced the Stade Lesdiguières as a venue in February 2008 .

Club president was (until bankruptcy) Kazutoshi Watanabe, the first team was coached by Yvon Pouliquen , who replaced "Mécha" Baždarević during the 2010/11 season .

In summer 2011, the association was liquidated before a competent court due to its over-indebtedness; the immediate re-establishment had the consequence that Grenoble had to make a fresh start in the amateur field; In 2015/16 the first team played in the fourth division .

League affiliation

Grenoble had professional status from 1942 to 1946, 1951 to 1971 and again from 2001 to 2011. First class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ) played the club in 1942/43, 1960/61, 1962/63 and 2008-2010. After several years in the amateur camp, Grenoble returned at least to the third division in 2017 . In 2018 he was promoted to Ligue 2.
