The Association Sportive Nancy Lorraine , abbreviated AS Nancy or ASNL , is a French football club from the Lorraine city of Nancy .

history

It was founded in 1910 as US Frontière (German: Sportunion Grenzland ); the name alludes to the location on the border between the French city of Nancy (in German also Nanzig at the time ) and the German Alsace-Lorraine . In 1928 the name was changed to AS Lorraine . Soon after the bankruptcy of the then dominant local rivals FC Nancy , the ASL took on its name, which is still valid today (1967). The club colors are red and white. The league team plays in the Stade Marcel-Picot with a capacity of 20,090 seats.

In the 2006/07 season, AS attracted international attention. As a league cup winner, the team qualified for the UEFA Cup . There she first knocked out Schalke 04 (0-1 and 3-1) before Nancy finished the group stage in second behind the Blackburn Rovers . In the sixteenth finals Shakhtar Donetsk ended after 1: 1 and 1: 0 further ambitions of the ASN. In 2008/09 , the ASNL played again in the UEFA Cup, but were eliminated in the group stage.

The club's president is Jacques Rousselot; Since October 2013 , the league team has been looked after by Pablo Correa , who had coached the team between 2002 and 2011. (Status: November 2013) The ASN motto shown in the two most recent club crests, whose players are often referred to as "thistles", translates as: "If you rub yourself against it, you will sting yourself".
