history
The football stadium was opened on August 8, 1926 with an athletics festival and was called Parc des Sports du Pont d'Essey until 1963 . The FC Nancy played until its dissolution in 1965, in the venue. Its current name can be traced back to Marcel Picot , the former president of Nancy FC. In 1963 a floodlight system was built.
In 1973 a new grandstand was built so that there was space for 25,000 spectators. The attendance record comes from September 16, 1976 from the game AS Nancy - AS Saint-Étienne , which took place in front of 30,384 spectators. In 1978 the athletics facility was removed in order to be able to build new grandstands.
On May 23, 1988, the Stade Marcel-Picot was the venue for the farewell game for Michel Platini , who started his professional career at AS Nancy. The French national football team with Platini played against a selection team with Diego Maradona .
A complete renovation of the arena was carried out from October 18, 1999 to 2003. Since the club was promoted to the first division , the audience has been over 90 percent.
