The Stade de la Licorne ( German unicorn stadium ; officially Stade Crédit Agricole La Licorne since 2018 due to a name sponsorship ) is a football stadium in the French city of Amiens , Somme department , in the Hauts-de-France region . The name Licorne (German unicorn ) refers to the two unicorns in the large city coat of arms of Amiens. These can also be found in the club crest of the SC Amiens football club . SC Amiens plays its home games at the venue. Before that, they played at the Stade Moulonguet ; in which the second team still plays today.
history
The arena opened on July 24, 1999 with the final of the Trophée des Champions between FC Nantes and Girondins Bordeaux (1-0). The stadium stands out due to its towering and slightly inwardly sloping glass roof construction. It offers 12,097 seats (including 41 wheelchair-accessible places). It was designed in such a way that it can be expanded to 20,000 places if necessary. There are 1,662 parking spaces around the stadium. The record visit was achieved in the 2008 French Cup semi-final . At the match between SC Amiens and Paris Saint-Germain , 11,937 spectators were present in the stadium. During the renovation of the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in 2014 and 2015 for the Euro 2016 , the RC Lens played its home games in the stadium in Amiens.
On September 30, 2017, there was an incident during the SC Amiens league match against Lille OSC . After Lilles defender Fodé Touré scored the 1-0 for the guests, cheering fans of the OSC stormed to the front steel railing of the guest block. Thereupon the device of the standing room gave way to the pressure of the spectators and they fell about one and a half meters into the depth. As the prefecture of the Somme department announced , 29 people were injured, six of them had to be treated in hospital. The game was canceled after the accident.
Name sponsorship
In July 2018 it was announced that the bank Crédit Agricole Brie Picardie ; which belongs to the Crédit Agricole group, will become the stadium's name sponsor from the 2018/19 season . The facility has since been officially called Stade Crédit Agricole La Licorne . Crédit Agricole has been a partner of SC Amiens for over 30 years. Alain Gest, President of the Communauté d'agglomération Amiens Métropole , had assumed that the term Licorne ( German unicorn ) would be retained for the renaming . The club did not provide any information about the length or financial scope of the agreement. According to reports, the term is designed for at least three years.
