Klaus F. Geiger

Klaus F. Geiger (* 1940 in Stuttgart ) is a German social scientist and professor emeritus at the University of Kassel .

life and work

After studying philology , Geiger first worked as a German and grammar school teacher, and later completed another degree in the field of social sciences . Since 1981 he has been a research assistant in this area at the University of Kassel . In 1993 he completed his habilitation there on the subject of “ Ethnic and National Identifications in Western European Societies ” and in 1998 was appointed professor.

In the 1970s Geiger dealt with the representation of war in the mass media and trivial literature , in particular with the representation of the Second World War . He also carried out a detailed analysis of the novel series " Der Landser ". Later during his time at the Kassel University of Applied Sciences, he carried out research in the areas of migration research and intercultural learning and was involved in setting up the foreigner education course.

Geiger was one of the signatories of the 2006 in the weekly Time petition published 60 migration researchers "Justice for Muslims!", In particular, the social scientist and feminist Necla Kelek criticized and accused government agencies, they would rely on the wrong experts and findings of Ignore migration research.
