Coupe de France 2007/08
The competition for the Coupe de France in the 2007/08 season was the 91st draw of the French football cup for men's teams. This season, 6,734 clubs from France and its overseas departments and territories took part - a record registration to date.
Defending champion was FC Sochaux ; however, he failed in the round of 16 at the cup winner Olympique Lyonnais . For Lyon it was the fourth win of this trophy overall and also the first in 35 years . At the same time national champion , Olympique won its first doublé in the club's history in 2008 . Final opponents Paris Saint-Germain FC played their tenth cup final - the fourth in a decade - and had to admit defeat for the third time.
2007/08 saw a sub-class outsider march through to the quarter-finals: the US Jeanne d'Arc Carquefou from the fifth-class CFA 2 only surrendered to the later finalists Paris Saint-Germain after victories over the second division FC Gueugnon and the first-class AS Nancy and Olympique Marseille beaten. These home games were played by the "petit poucet" ( such surprise teams are often referred to as " Thumbling " in France) in the Stade de la Beaujoire in the neighboring city of Nantes .
After the qualifying rounds organized by the regional subdivisions of the regional association FFF , the 20 top division teams also intervened in the competition from the round of the last 64 teams . The pairings and home rights were drawn freely for each round; However, there was a restriction on the privilege of lower-class clubs: only teams that played at least two game levels - not to be confused with league levels - lower than their opponent were automatically given home rights. Occasionally, however, amateur teams in particular waived this right in exchange for payment or avoided an attractive opponent in a larger stadium nearby. If the score was tied after extra time, there was a penalty shoot-out.
Thirty-second finals
Games from January 4th to 6th, 2008; the respective league membership is indicated with L1, L2 and D3 for the professional leagues , CFA and CFA2 for the two national leagues and DH ("Division d'Honneur") for the top regional amateur leagues.
