Alain Perrin (born October 7, 1956 in Lure , Haute-Saône department ) is a former French football player and current football coach .
Active career
Perrin played between 1971 and 1987. In 1971 he started his professional career at AS Nancy . After their descent to the second division at the end of the 1974 season, Perrin stayed for another year before moving to Varangéville. After five years he returned to Nancy and stayed there until 1987.
Coaching career
Perrin's coaching career began during his active career. In 1983 he trained AS Nancy's junior players under Arsène Wenger . In 1993 he made his first position as a coach at Association Troyes Aube Champagne . He had great success and led the club from fourth to the first division until 1999 and then to the UEFA Cup . In 2002 he accepted an offer as a trainer and manager at Olympique Marseille .
In January 2004 he was released in Marseille for persistent unsuccessfulness. After that he was courted by several European clubs. In July 2004 he went to Al-Ain , an association from the United Arab Emirates , as a manager . But he had to vacate his post there in October of the same year.
In April 2005 he then went to Portsmouth FC . There he replaced Velimir Zajec as manager. He tried to make the club a success, but was fired after eight months in December 2005. His record was only four wins from 20 games.
He then remained unemployed for half a year before he was signed by FC Sochaux . In 2007 he won the French Cup with Sochaux .
At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he succeeded the resigned Gérard Houllier at Olympique Lyon , was champion and cup winner. From November 2008 to December 2009 he coached the first team of AS Saint-Étienne . Since June 2010 he has been coaching the Al-Khor Sports Club from the Qatar Stars League .
On February 26, 2014, he took over the coaching position of the Chinese national soccer team .
