history
The Benedictine monastery of Notre-Dame, St-Pierre and St-Paul , which is said to have been founded by the Columban student Deicolus / Desle , has been occupied in the place since 959 . The monastery was equipped by Alsatian counts and was later in close contact with Alsace . Among other things, the abbey was by a bull from Pope Alexander III. in 1178 various domains, including Château Brotte, were awarded. Around 1340 the monks built a fortification against attacks from the House of Valois . Since 1392 it was under the rule of the Dukes of Austria . 1543 united Pope Paul III. the monastery with the Murbach Abbey . In 1544, Emperor Charles V gave it the right to mint the silver obtained on its property; the mint was in Guebwiller (Gebweiler). With the French Revolution the monastery was closed in 1790. During the winter campaign of 1813/1814 , the area around Lure was the scene of two battles. The Napoleonic troops tried in vain to stop the advance of the allies. The French lost (battle on December 27, 1813) or fled (battle on December 30, 1813). On January 2, 1814, the Austrian and Bavarian troops entered Lure.
Castle

The original castle was one of four corner towers and walls enclosed. Today only the large donjon and parts of a smaller tower remain of the towers. Over the centuries, the facility was used as a quarry in order to be able to build surrounding buildings. Homes and workshops used to stand inside the facility. Access to these buildings was via a drawbridge .
church
The Catholic Church of St-Martin is located in the center of the village on the main thoroughfare; it was rebuilt in the 18th century, with a 16th century chapel under the bell tower. The furnishings come from the former abbey church. The pulpit was built by Cuppillard in 1745 . The polychrome stucco altarpiece dates from the 18th century. The church holds relics of St. Deicolus / Desle and St. Columban of Luxeuil .
